Flashlight review, if it's allowed.
I was recently asked to review a new Thorfire light, the TK15, it is a side button multi level intensity light that I decided I would compare to my normal every day carry light, the olight S30 baton. Besides the magnetic base, these lights were similar in size, weight, and output. I also tried the VG15S as it came with a rechargeable Thorfire battery so I could test the battery they come with. I am not a "professional" reviewer, just a guy who uses these lights day in and day out in sometimes high stress/emergency situations.
I work at a wastewater treatment plant and ironically enough had hurricane Irma come through a few days after I received the lights, so they certainly got put through their paces on a couple all night sessions. I took the TK15 and gave the VG to a coworker who is not a light enthusiast to see what he thought overall. We swapped back and forth over the week and came together Saturday to talk about them.
Overall what a noticed and liked:
The knurling on the lights is fantastic, the modes are easily selectable on both, they throw very far, the Thorfire batteries hold true to voltage and MaH hours, and the charger the VG comes with is fantastic as I could use it in my truck. Another note on the charger is it *looks* like it will charge CR123's as well, I still need to test that. The TK15 is a warmer white which I never thought I would like, but it's actually starting to change my whole collection view to warm white. The lumen outputs are true to their ads, my readings were +-10 lumens of advertisement. I would like to see a VG15S in a warmer white color, but that's just personal preference.
What I didn't like:
The pocket clips on both are very tight out of the box. I like it because I don't want to lose my light while up on a tank, but for everyday stuff I can see it being hard to pull/insert from your pocket. Only other thing I noticed is the TK15 activation button is really easy to bump and and turn on. I accidentally turned the light on 6-7 times in a week, but it was mainly because the light was in my keys pocket, I would like to see the button a bit more recessed in future models, or maybe a bit firmer.
Would I buy more? Absolutely! For the price (<$30) for either model, they are an absolute bargain! My coworkers loved them, my buddies loved them, my mom even loved it for putting the chickens up. I will be adding more to my collection before long.
As an added bonus, I've also included 2 coupon codes for the lights when purchased from the A-Z website.
