Just curious if there would be any adverse effects to thoroughly washing out a Benchmade liner and axis lock using the light pressure of tap water? Any issues with rust or losing smooth axis function? Thanks for any advice.

I'd recommend just stripping it all the way down every once and awhile for thorough cleaning. In my experience they're not overly difficult to strip. This will allow you to clean and lube every part specifically and help insure you don't leave anything wet. I have seen BM liners with surface rust before. I'm not sure about the springs, but I choose not to risk it. I actually grease up both springs entirely when I clean mine. I'd also not be as worried as some seem to be about it voiding the warranty. If you're handy in the least, and therefore able to put it back together, BM will never know.
If you have compressed air, that would be a good option if you decide to wash it in water. If not, just let it dry fully and lube it up.

I rinse my knives in hot water then dry immediately. Whatever you miss while drying will evaporate due to the heat of the water warming up the material.

From the Benchmade website... "Do not disassemble your knife... Any of these acts will void your Warranty". I don't care what my knives are made of, I clean them all with a garden hose. Then I blow them out with compressed air and allow them to dry for a day. Then I over oil them, work them a bit, wipe off the excess oil which carries away dirt particles, and I'm done.
