I don't see the big deal. The old ones about jujitsu in your back pocket were way more offensive. I went to the store tonight to buy some zip ties:D :D and to see what all the fuss is about. Those models are waaay better looking than the ones sal glesser uses in his Meerkat ad-those girls look like prarie dogs!! I am more confused on why the wording says you would NOT want a boker- I only assume You'd want a spydie instead. I wouldn't have to worry, because if I was in a room with a girl that hot, My girlfriend's radar would pick it up, and she and her 1911 would save me!! or shoot me too!! whichever!!

Well the thing is I'm pretty confident that the Meerkat cuts really really well, but I couldn't say teh same for the Boker because I didn't try any.
I think T&A ads are really out... many are so repulsed by them. However I don't mind the occasional one ;)

While I have nothing at all against looking at scantily clad females, I do think T&A type adds cheapens whatever they are trying to sell and I don't care one bit about being politically correct. I would much prefer seeing something in an add that shows the use of the advertised item, like cutting up an alligator with a Battle Mistress. Now that is one Mistress I wouldn't mind being dominated by! ;)

Boker just doesn't seem to get it.
It makes me wonder who they are aiming their marketing campaigns at.

Young testosterone gorged wanna-be-bad-ass American males?

Wanna-be gangstas?

Walter Mitty?

You and me maybe...

I've been looking at their ads for years, shaking my head and wondering this.
I guess they don't realize that the climate here in America is that of toning down the Ninja-death-mongerer-tactical-slasher-knife and focusing more on the tool aspect of cutlery. (Usage of the cutlery tool may vary from indivdual to individual according to need.:) )
They must not realize that many, if not most of us, are fighting a battle to keep our masters(err, I mean government) from taking our knives and guns away from us.
I suppose they don't realize that their ads will be grabbed up and used by those whose wish is that any and everything sharp or goes bang(!) be strictly controlled and/or taken out of the general public's hands.

IMO, I think Boker needs to get a clue and take their ad campaigns in a different direction.

Swimming against the tide and wishing you all the best,
Mike U.

i have no idea what you guys are talking about does anyone have a link to this ad?

I haven't even seen the latest Boker ad from what it sounds like, but since I've started reading knife magazines (the last two years or so) I know I have a very strong tendency to groan and roll my eyes.

What the heck was that one "PERFECT FOR AN EMERGENCY. OR CREATING ONE" somethin' like that...they have a tendency to make you wonder if thier target market usually resides in a State Penitentiary.

Sounds like the latest is using T&A, eh? Slightly more tasteful, I reckon, although it still makes knife enthusiasts look like a buncha neanderthal mercenaries or something. "UNK! ME LIKE UM BOKER KNIVES!! THEY GOT UM MUCH VIOLENCE AN' PURTY WOMANS WHO LIKE SLOPE HEADED MODERN NEANDERTHAL WARRIOR!"

awright, no more facetious remarks 'till I actually see the latest one....

I have to admit that adverts with naked women in really dont do it for me.... if i wanna see naked women (and I do sometimes partake...) i get some naked women photos, if i wanna buy something im alot mroe interested in the specs of the item, I find that women draped around items just makes me laugh, car and bike magazines are typical examples, i dont know if its the same in the US but here in England all the motorbike magazines are full of swimsuit modles, just makes me laugh...

For a real hoot, check out the import car and lowrider magazines. Most gals draped on the car are wearing little more than the equivalent of a man's handkerchief. Unfortunately a lot of them aren't that cute, which sort of ruins the whole effect for me.YMMV

ok i think i just saw the ad today in tactical knives. it's the one with the guy thats tied up? the ad doesn't make sense but hell i don't mind T&A in ads, as long as the chick looks good, people gotta realize sex sells no matter how you look at it and those who believe otherwise are kidding themselves

Well...what can I say, I like the ads.
I think there funny and the chicks look good too.

Hey, at least they did'nt make some ridiculous statement like "toughest knives in the world" or "Number one hard-use knife in America" or "Official knife of the Navy SEALS (or Army Special Forces, Marine Recon, ect)".
Those are the ads that really turn me off.

As for the sexism of the ads...so what.
If you watch TV for just one day you will see ad after ad depicting men as total idiots and inferior to women (sometimes even intellectually inferior to small children). I don't hear anyone complaining about that brand of sexism.

I say take the ads in the spirit for which they were intended and lighten-up.

Allen.

I think Boker accidentally sent the Maxim ad to Tactical Knives!

That or they've seen some Busse ads and this is a really bad attempt to emmulate Busse ... sad.

What's even sadder is that the presence of the ad in TK implies that they think TK readers would actually want to be tied up barefoot in a wet room with jumper cables close at hand. I know there's folks like that, but I doubt they have the time nor the interest to read TK.

Me thinks somebody's bump their head against an even harder object ... or they've double-dipped their medications.

Now now... its not nice to stereotype people. You'd be suprised how many of us with "eccentric" tastes read tactical knives. (Or have the good taste not to. :p)

(then again anyone playing with electricity isnt liable to be reading much of anything, unless there's words on his/her coffin lining. )
