Those little irritations in life

Used to work for The Phone Company. The phone company employees' credit union is in another city.

Wanted to deposit some $$$ to our checking account with the c.u..
Sent them a Cashier's check drawn on the largest bank in the state.

They refused the check because I had not "indorsed the check." Pointed out that I couldn't "indorse the check" because it was payable to them. Drawn by the BIG bank on itself and payable to the credit union. I was a mere "remitter." Can't indorse.

Me: "What do you want me to do?"
Them (supervisor): "Draw a check payable to yourself and then endorse it over to us."

Seemed pretty silly, but it worked the first time, so who cares if it's silly.

This time they refused the check endorsed to them, causing seven checks I wrote to bounce. Why? No reason given and they are not open until Monday.

Yes, this is a petty problem compared to others, but it will still be a looooooooooooooooong weekend.

there is a vast pool of petty bureaucratic ZT bean counters whose brains are hard-wired and not re-programmable who were unable to gain a cushy job-4-life in civil service. they are normally hired by like minded micro-managers in financial institutions and major company accounts/payroll departments. one additional job requirement is that their sense of customer services is 180 degrees out from what customers expect. you will find on calling them monday that the first thing they do is institute an automated telephone menu system, the dreaded 'press 1 for .....', with at least 6 levels and looping back to the beginning when least expected. (if they do not yet have one, probably another bean counter has not yet signed off on the budget item as the it dept. have not turned in the mandatory cost/benefit/risk assessment justification document that is required but not understood by IT people).

anyhow good luck, chew them a new one on monday if you get to speak to a human.

Yeah, like make up their minds on what the policy is, and how about notifying depositors when the policy changes.

Trust me, a real anal-retentive bureaucrat will find and treasure and preserve a rule till the company collapses and the building is torn down. This sloppy one-way, then another-way is a disgrace to the ancient profession of counting-dried-beans-preserved-in-a-baked-clay-envelope, just as we inherited it from the first Sumerian accountants.

Tell them they owe you for the bounced check fees, too, you don't owe them.

There are so many rons in the world. These people are just more rons.

Here's the part I really don't get. They were turning down money! First they say, "Do not mail cash." Then they refuse two perfectly good checks - one a cashier's check. Somewhere The Original Banker must be turning over in his grave.

I'm sure if those responsible for the financial integrity of the credit union hear about it, they will remind these incompetent clerks of the first rule of business: Take the money up front. Work out the details later.

I gotta ask...
Why are you doing business with a c.u. in another city?
Ah geez. :o

There are the CU for eployees of TPC.

They used to have a branch in the building where I worked.

Then they had an ATM there.

Then they sold the ATM but you could still use it.

Then the ATM in the building went away, but I could use the ATM'sf theree different bank chains.

Now, I can deposit at one Bank-inna-box 4 miles south -- but not withdraw
OR
I can withdraw at a bank five miles north -- but not deposit.

Inertia.

It was time to cut the ties that bind a couple years ago.

This #@^$%#! is the last straw. Ordered checks for a local bank account.
