Those of you that have had a 765, question for you

I just purchased a new 765 (it's new but is stamped with a first production mark on the blade). I previously has a 761 and it was one of the smoothest operating knives Ive had, the deployment was like butter, super smooth.

This 765 I just got, it's kind of hard to deploy. Almost seems like it's a little gritty in the bearings. I have to put a bit of pressure on the thumb stud to get it to open, to the point it hurts my thumb. Is this how your 765 knives were when you first received them? Wondering if this is typical? Should I send in to Benchmade to get looked at or serviced? Thanks for your help!

I only had one 765 but it was not gritty or rough opening. It was very smooth even when brand new.

My 761 is the smoothest knife I have felt from the second it came out of the box.
I would give it a couple days and flick the hell out of it to see if the action improves. If it doesn't?? Send her in!!

That's how my 761 was, silky!

So I was a bit surprised/disappointed when I opened this 765. Thanks for the feedback (and dalefuller too)

My 765 was almost impossible to open when I got it. It took about 2 days for me to realize I was putting pressure on the exposed lockbar on the back of the knife when trying to open it, essentially locking the detent in place. Once I readjusted the way I held the knife when I opened it, the knife opened like butter on a hot griddle.

There's just not a lot of real estate on the back of the knife for your digits to brace themselves on when you're manipulating the thumbstud.

I hope this is the case!

This! Make sure you are not holding pressure on that lockbar when trying to open.

Thank you for the responses, I did change my grip and what do you know it did help! The bearings though are still not very smooth. Best I could describe it is gritty, the bearings don't roll smoothly. I think I'm gonna send it for service and see if I can get the bearings fixed or replaced. Any further thoughts on this?

The bearings should be very smooth although this can be subjective and hard to quantify. It is possible that the bearings could have made e a small dent in the blade causing this.
