Do you sharpen EVERY knife you own on the edge pro? I have come to the conclusion that it's kind of a hassle to sharpen every knife I own with it and then use it to touch them up.

I think some knives (like the ones I use hard, ie: Izula) I'm just going to sharpen on the sharpmaker and be done with it. Do y'all do every knife you own with the edge pro? Or do some knives only see the sharpmaker or other system?

Everything gets edge proed. :D

Touch ups are usually on the strop or on the SM is the strop can't handled it. Knives go back to the edge pro only when bevels need to reset or for reprofiling.

I have way too many knives to hit each one with the Edge Pro. The knives I EDC get the Edge Pro treatment, though.

Everything except my SAK's get sharpened on the EP.

I have mine setup all the time so it only takes a min or 2 to adjust it.

The Edge Pro is truly a great system, but I found it too much of a hassle to use on a regular basis. The Wicked Edge is easier to use, but it's still a big old thing to drag out and clamp up.

What I do is reprofile all my knives to 30 degrees. Then I use the pre-set 30-degree Sharpmaker ultra-fine stones for quick tune-ups. But all profiling and major resharpenings get done on Wicked Edge or, when I owned it, the Edge Pro.

Nobody uses their charged leather belt on a machine? Stropping on a CBN charged balsa hone is another favorite for me. It basically comes down to whether I'm in the shop or in the house.

I have the Edge Pro set up at a station on the work bench, and that is where I sharpen all of my knives.
I touch up with a rod and a Strop, when they need more attention,I hit them a couple of passes with the Edge Pro.
It doesn't take but just a couple of passes, to get the blade back and then I use the stoup to make sure the bur is removed.
Life is simple, keep the EP set up and use it regular.

Weird, I thought there was just a thread like this. Anyways- from my memory of other member's posts it seems those with a Sharpmaker and E.P. will frequently reprofile with the E.P. and keep the Sharpmaker out for daily touchups.

I'll add my vote and say that I don't own a Sharpmaker, but my E.P. is always set up so that's what gets used for touchups.

My EP PRO is permanently set up on my workbench.

I use it for all of my knives except a few larger outdoor knives, which I convex with a 1X30 belt sander and/or strops.

Touch up of already sharp blades is accomplished with strops and/or Lansky Crock Sticks.

I've tested the Spyderco SM, and I find that I much prefer the Crock Sticks.

There was just a thread like this. Next week we are going to spice it up and have a thread almost exactly like this. :D

I actually made the thread that was similar to this, but in that thread I asked about using the ep for touch ups. This thread is about if you use the ep for ALL your knives. Sorry if they seem too similar.

Got one in trade and it is nice. Use it occasionally. I like using stones for sharpening and touch-ups. Like the independence of it. Teaches me that with any abrasive that cuts metal, I can get a working edge on my knife. Your edge does not crap out when you are home opening mail. It goes bad when you are out in the field when all you may have is a pocket stone, river rock etc to fix it. I like being able to handle that situation, to repair rolls, dents, chips or dull edge with nothing but a field sharpener and get back to what I am doing.

I may not have the push cutting, laser like nightmare of an edge that some have, but they get the job done.

The serrated knives only see the Sharpmaker and a tiny felt wheel loaded with buffing compound on a Dremel. The kitchen knives are slowly starting to see the EdgePro, but most of those see diamond plates, waterstones, and various stropping materials instead. Pocketknives whose curvature or thumb-opener placement (i.e. Kershaw Ram, Kershaw Extra Toggle, Spyderco Dodo) is too extreme for the EdgePro are either sharpened like the kitchen knives, taken to the Sharpmaker, or are otherwise hand-sharpened.

Humor is that quality which prevents the necessity of keeping all of us in padded cells! :p:p

Being good with locks or with off-balancing hospital staff while still in a straight-jacket is also a viable alternative. I hear PFR does both with his mind.
