Those of you with cottages, trailers, cabins/the woods, etc.... what is your go to GROUP of knives?

We are opening up our summer place this weekend (ok, it’s a 40” fifth wheel we bought new last year, but it’s rock star level awesome! :p) and I just packed up the knives that I will almost exclusively rely on until we close in late Oct. These knives (and crowbar) will stay at the trailer with few changes through the year. I might bring up my Cold Steel Recon 1’s or Gayle Bradly 2 if I feel the need for a more heavy duty folder than the Tenacious, but it is unlikely as the ESEEs have me covered.

My setup includes....

ESEE 6
ESEE 4
Spyderco Tenacious
Mora Eldris
Leatherman multitool (usually the Sidekick)
Landi EDC
Les George Ti Prybar
Cheap Vaughan sharpener

Missing is my Kershaw Camp 18 machete and Bahco folding saw...

Note: if I camp or backpack, I tend to carry only the ESEE 6, Recon 1 or Buck 110LT and the Bahco Laplander saw.

What is you your go to setup when you have the luxury of being stationary?

Have a cottage in the woods, use Busse almost exclusively. B11, comp finish SJTAC, game warden, swamp rat tomahawk. For folders I use a ZT560 and just got a freeman 451. Also have a leatherman charge? Whatever the titanium and s30v version was

We have 5.31 acres in the high desert of NM, & all these work for everything from skinning, killing, weed whacking, to food prep.
I just added a 1311 last week, my big "chopper".
Have fun!

VERY nice collection! Wow.

No folders used in the desert?

My parents have a cabin in the mountains in northern AZ. Up there, it's almost 100% ponderosa pine, with some duglas fir, and the occasional oak or cypress.

I personally really don't find much use for most folders when I'm out in the woods. They tend to have less substantial handles, which makes my hand tire (more) quickly when carving/etc. Also, mid sized knives don't seem to get much use, as they are mostly "jack of all trades" styles, but in this case, we can (and do) have the various more specialized tools available for use.

What I like:

A belt knife, like a mora, BK16, or bushlore.
A larger chopper. They limb and section the small downed trees we have most springs. A lot easier/faster than dragging the chainsaw out for this sized stuff.
Silky folding saw. This gets a lot of use, trimming stuff near the cabin, etc.
A decent sized chainsaw. I think the one my dad has up there has an 18in or so bar.
Fiskars splitting axe. It's lighter than a maul, and easier for my father to swing. It takes care of incidental splitting tasks.
We rent gas powered splitters if a big tree comes down.

Then, of course kitchen knives, because unlike backpacking, we have a full kitchen at our disposal.

I've got a bit of land and some horses in the mountains. When I go up there I carry pretty much the same things I do at my ranch or when doing stuff outdoors in general.

A 4-5" fixed blade and a SAK or multitool. Sometimes I add a slipjoint or traditional folder of some sort. I don't use modern folders out there, they are more of a city thing for me and a replacement for the fixed blades that I just can't EDC in the city.

Since there are several axes and machetes I very rarely take big choppers.

Something like my old Carbon V Master Hunter is what I like to carry.

My family cottage is located near saltwater, but I also do alot of backpacking/ camping a little further inland. Spyderco H1 is my friend. Aquasalt PE, Pacific Salt PE and SE and Fishunter as I spend alot of time on the water both fishing the Cape Cod canal and surrounding waters by boat. If I'm camping away from the ocean, I tend to favor an ESSE 4 or Iszula for fixed blade. A PM2, Manix, or Grip. Just received my Spydie Chef in the mail today so looking forward to putting it through it' paces in both areas. Always have a SAK on me as well, typically a Fieldmaster or Hiker.

Plan on camping or renting a cabin this year, and bringing my Mora Companion, Victorinox Huntsman, and if I’m lucky enough to pick up the new Benchmade Bugout, that will come too.
