In the Khukuri scabbard there are those 2 small little knives. What is the story behind them and what are they used for?

The sharp one is the Karda. It is used for slicing things to small for the khukuri.
The dull one is the Chakmak. It is used for burnishing the blade and aligning small rolls in the edge.

Nothing dumb about that. One of the smartest men I ever knew, our friend the late Yvsa, designed his YCS khukuri with two kardas. I've seen older traditional khukuris which came with two sharpened blades also.
You can steel the big blade with the blunt back of a sharp knife; you can never cut anything with the dull edges of a traditional chakmak. If you happen to lose one - a not uncommon occurrence in the field - you still have one that can perform both functions.
