Thought I got a steal at an auction house,

I stopped by a local auction that usually carries some old slip joints an I saw one that caught my eye, it was at the bottom of a glass display case, and looked like an old trapper with stag handles. :D I got pretty excited about, an the place allows absentee bids if you can't make the auction, so I filled out a form, gave them my number an max bid, $27. I didn't want to go more than $27 because even though I'm browsing at knives at an auction house, money is pretty tight and I didn't even get too good of a look at the knife from where it was. Well auction roles around and I get a phone call earlier today saying I won the knife, ($25 was what I won it for, plus tax, plus fee for an absentee bid) so for about $30. I went an picked up the knife, not what I was expecting. It was a Schrade Uncle Henry Trapper with delrin stag handles and stainless steel blades, pics tomorrow, I'm pretty happy with it. My first Uncle Henry knife an first time with delrin stag, so well see. :D not really what I was hoping for either, but oh well.

Hi hwpaintballer -

Interesting - how old is that knife?

I just went to a farm/estate auction with my Father - I like to get out and do things with him while he still can get around good.

The auction advertised "Lots of knives, Case, Buck, Boy Scout knives, etc." .

They laid out an old typesetters drawer filled with knives; however, few of them held much interest.

The one Case that was there was an older model (xx), but the bone scale on one side was broken and missing a piece.

I did pick up a VERY nice two-dot 112 with sheath, and a nice older Buck/Strider 650 - no sheath.

I also bought the two Boy Scout Knives - I'll be posting pictures here later tonight. One is an Imperial with brass liners, the other is a CampBuddy, made in Japan but an older knife with carbon steel blades.

best regards -

Nice knife. I think you got a pretty good deal, especially new in the box. Would be a great user, too.

That "delrin stag" actually looks pretty nice from your pics. How's it look and feel in real life? The first pic in the box, from a little further away, really looks good.....

I'd say for $30 you did fine! ;)

It feels smooth and bumpy, if that makes any sense, and at full arms length I like the looks of it a lot, close up it's not giving me a warm fuzzy, but it may grow on me.

Congrats! She looks pretty nice to me. How's the walk & talk?

Despite a hole in one of the springs, which is about the only thing so far I've found wrong with the knife, it opens pretty smoothly, has a nice little snap when opening, and when closing, the springs don't feel strong enough to make me worry too much about loosing grip on them when closing with two fingers.

Had I bought the knife NIB the hole in the spring would annoy me an make me question the purchase, but because I got it at an auction, I plan on using, and the blades still open an close good the hole doesn't really bug me too much

nice knife, baller!!
Man, I always loved that Schrade Staglon.... I think that's what those handle materials are called. Looks like a real good user. And as long as that little hole doesn't affect the function, I say it's all good.

You got a great deal hwpaintballer. The hole won't make any difference. The 285UH is a nice trapper. Schrade did not do genuine Stag on the production knives, just on Special Factory Orders and customs. The Staglon will grow on you, and that 440 they used is good steel.
