Thought I'd make myself a fire bag

Had this neat edge piece of oiled cowhide so decided to make myself a fire bag with a built in sheath. Brass studs, Navajo silver beads. The fire kit has birch bark, hemp twine for tinder, fat wood, a fire rod and striker and for the purist a chunk of flint. The back of the knife is hard enough to strike the flint. The knife handle it the tip from a two point Buck ;-))

Great work as always, Robin! I really like how you incorporated a knife sheath on the bag.

Sweet, that'll last a few generations. I often wonder if the stuff we make now will be in the museums of the future.....Randy

That's pretty neat ya ole Bugger, got all the custom order's done for the people i've been telling you about and it's time for some ME Time

Robin, You just keep pulling out all kinds of neat stuff. I saw a bag with an incorporated sheath once before. However, it was a black powder enthusiast's bag and was much larger. His sheath was on the back of the bag. I love the size and look of your fire bag. Keep them coming.

Is that based on a old bag or is i tan original designee?
Beautiful work by the way, the clasp is very cool.

Your work is amazing. So are those belt loops on the back? How did you treat the antler to get such beautiful contrast?

Thanks, Matt.

Thanks for all the comments guys, much appreciated.
Pullrich, here's a pic of how the closer works, I thought of it over 30 years ago and have used it ever since, recently saw someone else using it on a bag. Nice simple way to close bags. As you can see from the pics there are two thongs the one in the flap with the beads passes through the loop created by the lower, pull the lower pair to tighten, pull the upper to open the loop. The lower thong can also be used with a button on the flap.

Randy, if our stuff ends up in a museum it will be under the category of "Old hippie crafts))))))"

Ed Bro, it's just something out of my head, I love using the raw edges from around the side of the hides, many of my bags start with the flap and evolve from there. Keep safe Bro.

Matt, thanks for the kind words. Yes there are belt loops on the back. I use Feibings leather dye for Everything, antler, bone, mammoth ivory and wood, I love the stuff. I use both the spirit dye and the oil dye (sometimes together with spirit dye first then oil over it) I usually just dick around with it till it works. You can match colours form the handle/haft to the sheath very closely.
Here's the closer pic.
Very best regards to all

If these bags are a result of burnt out minds, I guess mine just isn't burnt out enough yet. I'm jealous. Great bags guys.
