Thoughts about what OVB #3 should be...

Greetings fellow knuts,
I've doing some thinking (yep, pretty dangerous) about what OVB #3 should be, and have decided that unless Camillus is going to go sambar stag on the cheap, (NOT likely!) that I think something different should be done. Yes, I have the OVB#1, have #2 on order and will undoubtably love it as much as the first. However, I think that Camillus needs to do something different for #3. Simply re-handling the same Fisk designed blade will be getting a little repetitious. I'd like to see something different, but I think that by starting out with such an awesome first and second choice it will make coming up with #3 that much harder. Some questions for you all:
1. does the OVB#3 have to be a fixed blade?
2. if so, who designs this one? Fisk again? How about Hossum? (I,m thinking that it needs to be someone that has a recognizable style)
3. How about a premium slip-joint?
4. If so, what pattern? Stockman comes to mind as probably the most traditional and/or useful pattern... but this is bound to offend the fans of the multitude of other patterns.
5. does Camillus already have plans for #3? #4? #5?
6. How about a combo OVB... for example a fighter FB along with a Hawk similar to the combo Mel Gibson had in the movie "The Patriot"?

Well Mr. Fennell and other important Camillus types, I'm interested in what will happen here.... in the meantime I'll wait and see what my fellow Camillus fans think.
Thanks in advance for your replies.....

I'd like to see a premium slip joint. Maybe a trapper or even better, a stockman. Dress it up with jig bone scales. Years ago when I first started collecting knives, slip joints were the appeal for me and I always gravitated towards the stockman configuration. It's a highly useful pattern with the three different blade shapes.

My choice for the next QVB would be another Fisk design. Lets stick with a winner! I would like to see a smaller fixed blade like Jerry's "Sendero" model (field knife) or his "Gumbyahha" model (personal carry knife) with a 4 inch blade.
Good Collecting !

I think you are going to have to go to #4 for something different - #3 is already covered - another version of the Fisk Bowie. When tried to order a #2 from one supplier, they were sold out but said could pre-order a #3 which will have different handles - was told maybe Oct/Nov - at least by Christmas. Found a #2 in the meantime so now have two more Fisk bowies & a BK-9 coming - :D :D :D

Wow, thanks for the replies so far... I have to say that I like Jocko's ideas best. The idea of another Fisk model, especially the small tactical is a great idea. But, Dexter also has a good idea in a premium slippie, ala a Bose or someone similar. I think Stag or nicely jigged bone with a premium steel that actually arrives sharp(!) in a slippie would be a very nice choice.
I am however, dissappointed to hear that there is already a #3 done. And that it is a re-do on the Fisk bowie. Unless it is stag, it would be hard to top desert ironwood. I think also that if #3 is really slated for a Nov/Dec release, that it is WAY too soon. I think the IDEA behind the OVB line should be one of anticipation and build-up with a maximum of two per year, but preferably once! This way, there would be a fervid fan base with unquestioned loyalty. Depending on what #3 ends up being, I will find it hard to buy yet another Fisk bowie with just a different handle. (Sambar stag excepted!;) ) Heck, I know my wife wouldn't understand purchasing #3 when #2 is supposedly being released this month!
Still looking forward to more opinions, especially if Will chimes in.
Thanks,
Mongo

Camillus tooled up to make Fisk bowies, took on a big learning curve to produce them, and they will probably make as many variations as they can sell. There may be 10 or 20 variations of the Fisk Bowie. They've got the process down, they'll make as many as they can sell. The OVB line is going to have many knives in it, I'd speculate.

As far as a slipjoint, Our Very Best should be something as special as a Fisk Bowie. Another collaboration with a well known maker, with that maker providing some construction advice and approving the final product. My choice would be a swell center folding hunter and have Kenny Rowe teach them how to make the sheaths (I know that's not going to happen).

I'd also like to see a collaboration with Big John Fitch. He's making some small stock removal Bowies out of D2. Camillus is already making Cuda Maxx blades out of D2.

I would bet the next one after the ironwood will not be another 7" Fisk.

It may be bigger.

It may be smaller.

I have been told it will be different ;() <---my lips are sealed.

Bastid! :D Will isn't even at home anymore for me to bother him long enough. LOL

Now that I think back(gettin' hard with old age!) nothing was said about it being a Bowie or 7", only a Fisk with some gorgeous handles. Leaves some interesting possibilities open!

Dex - Have the feeling Will is going to leave you twisting in the breeze on this one! :D :D :D

Mongo, if Anthony is right you may get your wish - know what you mean about the Bowie but they had no trouble selling out #2 - Stag would be nice but be a lttle difficult with the unavailability currently and they wouldn't compromise on the quality.

There is certainly nothing wrong with the Fisk designed Bowies, but I also would like to see them come out with a folder, either a Stockman, a Trapper, or a large two blade folding hunter with jigged bone scales and the same steel as the Fisk Bowies.

I would like to see them continue with the Fisk knives for a while and also try to get a multiblade maker to start an OVB series with them. I know it would be even more labor intensive to make them right, but it may be an idea to consider.

Folks,
Everybody is getting ahead of themselves[and WAY ahead oc CAMILLUS]. We have not even finished the Ironwood verison of FISK's Commanchero yet, much less any so called #3 version. We have plans for more OVB knives....some with Jerry Fisk, and maybe some others. Time will tell. In the meantime, look forward to the next one, the Ironwood ;)

Will,
Sorry, did not mean to stir anything up but whatever & whenever OVB #3 comes about I'm on the waiting list for it with a friend of yours down in Arkansas who sold out of #2's real quick. Just knowing there will be a #3 is enough - the what & when is not a concern - will come about in time & know it will be totally awesome!

In the meantime was lucky enough to get one of Cheryl's last available #2's - getting a BK-9 at same time - that is what I call a Dynamic Duo! :D :D :D Not much cutting power there!!! :D If I wanted to duplicate some of tests done at Farm after Blade which works better & why - soda or beer cans? (I know beer is more fun!) Wanted to get some expert opinions(doesn't have to be scientific!).
