Not sure if this the right spot for this. So mods move me if you like.
I live in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. Since Thursday we have been on high alert as bushfires rage across most of NSW.
At this present time we have 2 fire grounds that have jumped containment lines and as the crow flies are about 12 miles away. We love the Australian bush, thats why we live in it. We have 1 way out of here as we are surrounded by bush 360 degrees. It is only spring over here and the temperatures are already very high. Looks like we are in for a very hot, very nasty summer. Please spare us a thought and also to those who have already lost everything. Thanks in advance.
Cheers Keith

This is to the South.

This is to the East. Looking down our driveway.

This is to the North.

The west.

Since taking these photos this morning the smoke is very heavy now and we have locked up the house with our 2 dogs inside. Bags packed, ready to go if need be.

Prayers on the way. I hope and pray that the fires are out soon and no lives are lost.

Keith, we will keep up good thoughts and prayers for you all. That is too close, I hope it stays away.

Keith and also others who live in Australia, i hope the fires able to be controlled. Praying for the rains...
We in Central Borneo also have similar situation. But mostly man made fires. Smokes everywhere, they burning their land which is peatland, for status quo. To make sure that others will not claim their property. Burning is the easiest way to show to others that someone still "manage" the land. It is massive and sometime makes the airplane not able to landing...
Take care.....

I was in the blue mountains in 1987. It is a beautiful place. Good luck and be well.

I was a wild land fire fighter for ten years.

I was there visiting a friend that taught fire ecology and behavior.

I miss my friend and the country.

Hope things have calmed at least a little.
Any update, Keith ?

Best,
Doug

Hi Doug, Thanks for your thoughts mate. Very calm at the moment, problems will be in the next 3-4 days as the weather warms up and the winds return apparently.

Wishing for the best Keithf, hope all goes well and stay safe. Prayers sent, keep trust!

I'll be thinking of you, Keith. My wife and I lost nearly everything in a wildfire in September of 2011, and I understand very well what it's like to have that kind of worry hanging over your head.

I live in an area which is prone to brush fires. You folks have my heartfelt prayers.

Best of luck to you. Stay safe and take care.

I'm familiar with that area of Australia, in fact I've worked a couple jobs at the Tahmoor Colliery. Beautiful country, and I'm saddened by the daily news reports shown from the area.

Thanks Bob and everyone else for your thoughts. I actually live opposite the Colliery, well kinda a bit further in the bush.
Cheers Keith

Hi mate, terrible state of affairs there. Hopefully it won't come any closer, but it might be best to hit the road and just get out of there for good measure.

Stay safe........Pete

Looks bad from what I have seen on videos and photos, can't imagine what it is like in person. Prayers sent, stay safe!
