Here's an interesting one. I'm sure you saw this on ebay. I had to get it cause it was so unique (to me).

It screams "fake", but the fit and finish are so tight, I don't know. Maybe LT has seen something like it...

The blade is marked "stainless, Geo Schrade Knife Co. Inc., BPT Conn.".

The slots for the blades are 2 individually stamped metal pieces that are folded around each blade, then the whole thing is pinned together. The knife blade has some use wear, but looks full and fits snug with the backspring. The length of the blades is good for the length of the well/insert.

Everything about this looks legit, but the handles look too new. However, other than the light scratches on the knife blade, it is in excellent shape.

The OAL not including ring is 4 3/4".

So, I leave it up to you to decide. What say you?

Glenn

Tough call, wish I could help more. I'll go out on a limb and say its legit, I think maybe a short run for a market test or maybe even a proto. Anyways, its looks like a cool and practical knife. Now I'll sit here with you and wait for the real story.

I'm a guessing the knife is real, but with added wood scales. Can you look at the knife and visualize the inner folded metal slots where the blades rest when closed as the orginal handle?

Aw heck ain't nothin but an old 420 rehandled and maybe a little more. I didn't want to step on Phil's response, this pic is in the same book, Phils Avatar came from. LT

Now we know the rest of the story.

I still like the looks of that knife. Most practical looking "fish knife" pattern I've seen. I'll have to be on the lookout for another, with or without scale modifications.

Yeah,

after seeing another fish knife listing, I could picture the original design inside it. If it is a handle retro fit, someone took a lot of time to fit the handles so tight, cause there ain't a gap on them anywhere. They look perfect. And they would have had to run the pivot pin through and then reset the new ones.

The thumb notch on the scaler blade side is perfectly machined.

Someone went to alot of trouble to pimp this one out.

Anyway, it is a solid knife in great shape for it's age.

Thanks for your info, everyone.

Sometimes we lose sight of what we are dealing with That knife was special to someone and it is a design that was ment for a purpose it was never made to be a collector it was a user that someone obviously loved. The knife will never be worth alot of money and the person who did all that work knew that. You can bet he did not get it in a flea market and just decided to put all that time, effort, and even money into it. Nope that knife has a history and character it was done by someone, for some reason building it as a monument to a time and place in the past that only they remember. That knife seems to be talking saying dammit take me fishing that is what I am here for. You know that I am a gambling man and I would be willing to bet if the next time you bait up if you are carrying that tool you will have one of the best days of fishing that you can remember. Heres a hint take a kid with you, who knows, down the road ( a bunch of years) he might think so much of the day you took him fishing that he just might resurrect that old knife a third time. Nice knife I think it would go well with a cold beer. LT

and that is why I collect pieces like that...

(come to think of it, a cold beer would taste good right now. Dang, only 9AM. Okay, vodka then :D )

Glenn

Over the years I have found that I seem to have more trust in a person who's hands may shake ( just a bit ) in the morning. While I do not check my watch before determining if it is an appriopriate time to imbibe. I have found that drinking Vodka at 9 AM tends to lend itself to a very short day.

Redshanks I may be mistaken however I believe your knife has also been rehandled. LT

Looks like a rehandled "G. Schrade's Hunting and Fishing Knife". These things do lend themselves to rehandling, the original steel handles making good looking 'liners' once the handle slabs have been added.

Everything cool that LT said about the first knife shown in this thread goes for this one as well: someone liked the knife enough to work on it, making it special. Maybe they could not afford a real expensive knife, so they made what they could buy look better. Either way, neat collectible I say. Here is the original.

Please note, sometimes these are found with Boker blades (Boker bought out Geo. Schrade and used thier own marked blades on the Hunting-Fishing knife). Usually, when offered on ebay, these G. Schrade/Bokers make the seller wanna pee his pants, thinking he is offering something way, way out of the ordinary. But you know, considering my choice of Avatar here, I guess I am one of those people.

Great knives, guys
