Thoughts on a 3rd 50th Anniversary 110

I have a vivid memory of my dad giving me and my brother our buck knives. It was Christmas, sometime around 1990, and they were 25th commemorative edition with nickel bolsters and a pattern etched on the blade. I still have mine, and I'm almost certain my brother has his.

A couple weeks ago I saw that 50th Anniversary ones were available and I realized that I should should someday carry on the tradition and give them big old 110's - knowing that their little hands may never actually be big enough.

In my short years of being a parent, I've grown to appreciate how things given to siblings should be very similar and equal whenever possible, but certainly not identical and indistinguishable.

I have 3 kids. Standard and finger grooved are the obvious choices for the first two, but I don't know what to get for #3.

I don't expect a 3rd 2014 model of the 110s to be released. A 112 is maybe a better size. Honestly, it'll be a few years before I'm comfortable with them having a large or heavy folder, so I could just wait a year or two until those "50th" plaque/badges aren't on them anymore, but the whole point of this exercise is to get 50ths for my kids since I've always appreciated that my dad gave me a 25th.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like a really cool idea. You could get them engraved with their names on them so they are personalised.

Your financial budget doesn't have to be divulged but have you thought of getting them custom made 110's? They can be made very specific and the options are great.

You could personalize them to your liking. There is a wait time and they are more pricey than a 50th model.

The cool thing about the 110 is that no 2 ever have identical handle scales.
So if you bought 3 of the same model, they will all be unique :)

Get six of the new 110s.

Three finger groove and three plain.

Give each lucky child one of each flavor when you think the time is right. Until then keep them hidden, safe (safe deposit box), keep the boxes and all paperwork (including receipt) and not stored in the sheaths.

There will be a total of 9 2014 110's to choose from......

I got a "chairman" with 50th anniv. Blade but the OLD sheath..bet someone pulled a switch!

Thanks for all the responses - I'm short on time this morning, so I'll try to make this quick.

-I didn't know there were that many models, I hadn't even seen the 4 collector's editions until browsing this forum just now. I really like the look of them, but they are out of my current price range. Maybe I can justify a lochsa for myself in a few months. I looked at a making a custom one or 3, with some really beautiful options, but a little more than I'd like to spend -especially when you tack on the $30 shipping to canada + the recently weakened Can$.

-I bought the two standard 50th anniversary editions from a local dealer. I was in for another issue and saw a badged 50th 110 in the display case and pretty much went in to the impulse buy. The worker and I had to open 5 or 6 boxes to get a smooth (9210 110BRS) and grooved (2538 110FG) versions with the badges. Even as I was walking out the door, I thought I should buy a third, but I didn't want to before I did a little research. All in they were a little over $100 together.

-The CW Chairman edition looks like it has a lot of promise for my current want list - similar but not identical, and I can probably get over the signature one it.

dctex99 - does yours have the "Buck Anvil" badge or the "1964 50 years" badge? The inlay on the SMKW doesn't work for my preference, neither does the stars and stripes (As I'm Canadian).

My blade has the 50 in an anvil circle; it is possible it was a late production 2013 and they ran out of blades, but did not have the usa made sheath yet; since I bought it on Ebay I will never know. I love the Silver sheath really. I may buy another just for the sheath, but will wait until I am sure I get a '14 model as many
old models left on shelves. dctex99

Any chance of a photo? I'd like to get a better look at the logo/badge on the scales and of the signature side.

Thanks tex - I like the nickel bolsters and how the blades would match, I just don't like how red the scales are and I'm not sure about the signature. I'd have to order online either way, but I'm indecisive on what third one to get.

not a great photo

I like it. Thanks for the pictures. I'm not keen on the signature, but that's not a big deal.
Yours came with a nylon sheath ? I think I would be making a phone call. The new leather sheath with the different logo looks cool

I'm a newbie here and just starting the collection thing. I saw this was a relatively recent post and thought I'd add my 2 cents. I saw this on eBay and am considering getting one.
Never mind. Amazon has them for $28.

Since it is your first post, the guys in charge will probably go easy on you :)
But..... links to current listings on "the bay" aren't allowed. (Maybe delete the link ;) )
and.... guys like us that are "registered users" aren't allowed to ask values. (Paid membership levels are allowed to ask values)
Definately check out the rules for posting.

That being said, Welcome to Buckland :)
Compare the price on that knife, various listings on the bay, the website named after the big river, the big box stores etc...
Find a price you think is good, and go for it :)

I'll catch on eventually! Thanks. It's a shame I can't inquire about estimated knife pricings so I can tell whether a find is a good deal or not, but I understand about dealers "fishing" for sales, so I'll just muddle through as best I can. The "big river" website has been helpful in determining a base value (and many on the "auction site" end up selling for more than a brand new one, so it certainly pays to research). WorldKnives (can I mention them) also has a great compendium of makers and brands I use to search for interesting styles.
