Thoughts on a couple of Kukris?

There are a couple of Kuks for sale that i'm considering buying to keep me amused until the custom that's being made for me is done. They're both under 100 cash, made of 6150 steel and hardened to 58-60

The one with the black handle has Micarta scales, the other is wood. What do you think of these designs? Which would you prefer and why

Option One

Option Two

Same sheath for both

I think option 2 is a copy of a Busse TTKZ, with a bad attempt on the handle, right down to the trademark talon hole (on both models). If you already have a custom on order, why not just buy a Cold Steel kukri machete and save the rest of your money?

Like the blade shape on both. Alot....

Agree with LD about option 2- looks a bit too much like a imitation of the Busse.
I think the contouring on the scales on both could be better.
The sheath looks less than inspiring.

I prefer the brown of the wood. I am so bored with the black tac look

For under $100 if the HT is good, both of these look a bargain to me.

They look nice but who knows what the heat treat is like on them. I'd be concerned one would come apart during some hard use.

If the seller can verify who does his heat treat you should be okay.

Both have rip off talon holes and the bottom one is a complete rip of the Busse design

love the "busse talon hole" thing...makes me feel all tingly

anywho...gotta agree the second is a cheap copy of a busse...

I can certainly see the resemblance to Busse KZ's... looks like it could certainly be a ripoff

I have seen the guys design drawings, and i saw a bit of the evolution of the design as it was approaching production, but in the end, either he was heavily influenced by the KZ, or just flat copied it... didn't notice that before but it seems a bit obvious now

I guess the next question is, would buying one be the wrong thing to do.

I still want one, and like the design, and the price is GREAT

I'd still suggest a Cold Steel kukri machete instead. They seem to get good reviews, and you don't have to wonder if you're carrying a trademark infringement.

Honestly.... I think the person selling them to you should upgrade his membership before it causes him trouble.
We take a dim veiw of people whom skirt the rules to profit from selling here without the proper membership.

+1 you can smack it around an get the feel of a khukri while you wait for only a few $$ get the bigger CS model if you do get one, I like it better.

BTW, I like them except the handles need radiused to look finished.

Lack of integrity by trying to sell his wares here without the proper level of membership and selling apparently copied designs

Please explain that lack of integrity. Should I expect low quality or theft?

A paid membership here is a good thing. It supports the forums and it generates a lot of business in the long run. That is what lack of integrity is in this case.
