Thoughts on an ESEE spearhead

I just got my AH1, and I LOVE it. Thanks ESEE and Spark. But it got me thinking, would a longer, thicker version, spearhead, be viable? I think it would. It could double as a knife, put a small wooden handle on it, short spear, long spear, longer poles. You could throw it (for fun, I am strongly averse to throwing my gear except in my backyard), I even thought it could be used as a weight for a trot line, if you had to. There are many more uses that I can't think of, but I think it would be a great piece of gear. Just a thought. Moose

The arrowhead that they have out right now, AH-1, is the first and the smallest one. I know they have 1 for sure, maybe 2 more coming out that will be larger in size. They haven't given any specs on them so I'm not sure on the exact sizes.

a spearhead and a knife are two different things. One with the same angle, grind, and hardness as the AH-1 would be useless as it would snap if you looked at it wrong. Some experimenting should be done with soft steels, thickness of the stock and how sharp you can maintain it so that the edge doesn't break after thrusting with it.

I've checked the CS bushman and spearheads, I was just curious about and enlarged AH1 style, with a more narrow profile and thicker steel. What is the Rc of the AH1? I can't seem to find it on search and google. Thanks. Moose

i think a larger AH1 would a good option to carry on your pack you could attach it to a sapling or any other thing that would make a good spear handle that way you wouldnt have to worry about losing your (one and only maybe?) knife. when tracking your game if it dont happen to drop in its tracks! just a thought...

The problem with the Bushman is that a socketed handle requires a set screw to keep the head from flying off the shaft if it gets knocked into anything (even after jamming a socket onto the shaft repeatedly and as hard as you can, a few light whacks to the shaft will loosen the head right up). A piece with a handle designed for lashing in a split stick would be a welcome addition. A double-edged leaf blade would make for an excellent trowel as well. :)

I've been pushing this idea since the AH-1 came out so you're not alone. :D

Something like the CS boar spear might be nice. Of course, we could just buy a Boar Spear.

Izula or HEST! :D

i've seen one of the makers here with pix posted of a lash-on spear/harpoon head and there's a number of knives intended for paracord wrap handles that would serve well.

ok, perhaps some of those are not ideal for use as a spear head... but i'm just throwing available options out there instead of wishing someone would make something.

perhaps the AH3 will be big enough when it comes along, or will that be the SH1?

Um, may I ask what these are? Me likey.

I have a SOG fusion spearhead with small handle that can be unscrewed and attached to a broom handle. Its socket is threaded with a set screw as well. I have broken 2 "heavy duty" broom handles so far but head has never came loose. Neat idea but I tend to prefer a longer stick tang to lash on rather than trying to field fit a limb into socket if no brooms present themselves.

whups, thanks for the backup on that. dog wanted OUT and i didn't get back to add any maker's info. she still hasn't learned to take care of business the first three times i take her out.

Turley also has a Silver Creek PSK/tin knife that has a similar shape... but he's not taking orders for them, he said he'll just be making them in batches and selling them on his website.

'Ask and you shall receive', eh? Had I known it was gonna be that easy, I'd've asked for Wednesday's Lottory Numbers! Um, is it too late to ask for those instead...?

No, they are .... :D

No problem. I was looking at them myself ;)

I've always hated the thought of lashing my knife to a pole to make a spear. Would I do it if I needed to? Absolutely, no doubt, but I carry 2 anyway. I think the CS stuff is big, but appropriately sized for its use, i.e Boar Spear. Something say, 4" long, 3" at the widest point, 5/32" thick, would be more easier to transport, therefore more likely to be on you. Same exact design of the AH1. Factor that in with all the chores it can do, and you have a very useful piece of gear. I could buy CS, but I like ESEE gear better, and would rather have my money going to them. Thanks. Moose

I've been wanting a spearhead for some time now. I'd feel very well protected in the bush having one. It doesn't need to be too big. 4-6" would be enough. I would like it to have a socket to fit on a shaft, with perhaps slots perpendicular on either side to lash it with. All supplied with a sheath for safe transport.
If Esee made that, I'd buy it for sure. Just dreamin' :)
