I'm curious about the Benchmade Emissary 470. Any shared thoughts would be appreciated. I have a Barrage and a Mini Barrage now.

I like the looks but I think they are a little small for me. IIRC it is about the same length as the mini Barrage but much slimmer.

I played with one in the store the other day. Nice and sleek, pocket clip is excellent, but the form just didn't wow me. The handle molding is weird, and doesn't really contour to my hands well. It deploys very fast, looks real neat, but I think I still prefer my mini grip. I thought the price of $170ish was also very high.

It's a good looking little knife, and I was sure I was going to buy it but when I handled it I decided not to at the last moment. Things fell apart for me because I was carrying my 707 that day and compared the two.

It's the same size blade as a 707--though I think the 707's blade shape is better--but it's actually bigger in the pocket than a 707. It's a smidge longer here, a smidge thicker there. It is lighter than a 707, though and comes in S30V instead of the 707's 154CM if you're the sort to fixate on something like that (I'm not, at least not for a 3" folder). Also, it suffers from having an obnoxious little safe mechanism.

Who am I kidding, even though I think the 707 is a better knife overall I'll probably still buy one eventually, just to have a gray alternative to my 707.

I have it and like it. Small and unobtrusive, makes for a nice little "going to church" package.

If you want a gray one you may want to think about getting it soon. They discontinued the 470 and now have the 470-1 which has a black handle. Apparently the handle supplier wasn't meeting the gray coloring that Benchmade wanted so they switched to black.

I have both but this post says it better than I could.

The 470 is not a $170 knife. It's a nice knife but not special.

Well you guys better hurry, the grey 470 is now discontinued replaced by the 470-1. Prices are gona skyrocket on the grey version since they're sold out almost everywhere.

The 470 is a pretty cool knife, but having an axis-assisted opening is a head scratcher. There is really no need to assist an axis knife. I owned the 707, but I think the 470 looks better, abet a bit over priced.
