Thoughts on BM Nimravus as a Hunting Knife?

I got a Benchmade Nimravus a few months ago and absolutely love the knife. I have the plain edge drop point version and, with hunting season coming up, was thinking about carrying it in the field.

I realize it isn't marketed as, nor does it look like a hunting knife, but the blade shape (drop point) is one of the most common blade shapes for a hunting knife. How do you think the knife will do field dressing a white tail in the field? Just curious what you guys think, I love this knife so much I need every excuse to carry and use it :p

I'm sure it would work just fine- provided you didn't get the serrated version. It's a nice knife. There's absolutely no reason why you couldn't or shouldn't carry it and use it. It should work great for field dressing.

Sorry to change the subject, but do you have the Nimravus with the Molle sheath? If so, what is the insert made of? Is it pretty hard plastic?
thanks,
K

I don't see why it wouldn't work as good as any other drop point. Sometimes we all get way too caught up in marketing and not enough in actual use. If you have the serrated version that might get in the way, but if its plain edge you should be fine. If you are comfortable with the knife then use it.

Serrations....ewww!!! Yea, I have a plain edge version :D

I do, and it seems to me the insert is leather. I could be wrong but that's what it seems to be. Definitely not plastic.

I like the Nimravus so much I have two. They will absolutely work as a hunting knife...or a bushcraft...or a tactical..... etc. Maybe not perfect at any, but more than sufficient at all.

The nylon sheath has a hard plastic insert. It may have a fancy name such as zytel, or something similar, but in the end it's a sort of plastic. Very stiff and rigid. In fact, the nylon sheath provided with my PE Nimravus is the nicest, well-made nylon sheath I own. Impressively done with plenty of attachment options including Molle. The old Kydex sheath supplied with older Nims is also very nice.
