Thoughts on Bucklite Max Fixed Blade?

I ordered one a couple days ago and it should be ariving soon. If I'm not mistaken, the blade looks almost identical to that of the vanguard, an excellent skinning/ large game hunting knife. I got the orange one, so hopefully it will never get lost -it also has the Boone & Crocket logo which is kinda cool.

I saw these two vids on youtube which kind of pushed me over on the blade. Heck, it was only $27.50 shipped, so I think it could prove to be an excellent value. What do you guys think of them, any fans?

They are great knives. The orange handled Boone & Crockett model is in my survival bag as a 'just in case' knife. I think this model, both the large and small versions, are real sleepers in Buck's lineup.

Heck, the entire Bucklite line is great. The 486 large folder is my summertime 'dog walking' knife - lightweight, great blade shape. I like them so much I give them away as gifts.

I have owned one for a few months - orange grip same as in your pic. It cost me about twenty five bucks - it's the large size ( there is a smaller model as well). I think it's one of the great bargains in knives. Uses Buck's 420HC and takes a good edge. It's a great kitchen knife - slices well and cleans up easy.

The grip is a bit on the skinny side for my large hands and the sheath is a basic affair but that's it for negatives. I'm sure you will like it.

I think it's a great knife. 420HC is 420HC. Great blade, high viz orange handle, fantastic price vs. value. I might just get a couple of them to stick in my pack and jeep.

I'm excited, should be here tomorrow hopefully. Maybe I'll post some pics and first impressions. I have found a few places where the black model is even cheaper, great bargains! Then again, like those youtube videos I posted mentioned, the heft of the vanguard might make it a little bit better for processing deer due to the added leverage and power.

Man, I love that guy's videos. The Japanese accent is wonderful.

Did you catch the part where he struggles through "Boone & Crocket"? So neat to see that even in a one world culture of facebook and you tube, ther are still things we're learning from each other. A Japanese stag being dressed with a Buck knife. How cool is that.

While I havn't gotten a chance to use mine yet, it has the gut hook. I am not new to skinning and processing game, it feels real good in hand. Personally I prefer a handle a little small as it feels more agile with it. Using a sharp knife properly on cleaning game and you shouldn't need any leverage, short of cutting the brisket which I prefer not to dull my knife on and typically use other tools for the task.

Ya, I stumbled on his buck reviews somehow then watched a lot of his vids. He's pretty dang good at freehand sharpening too. I bought a King stone, maybe partly because of his demonstrations. Then I saw he had a vid in which he believed King sharpening stones weren't that great. :p

It came today and so far I think it's a pretty good deal, just like most of Buck's knives. The jimping on the blade is pretty decent, no sharp edges there. The handle material is decent, but it's rubberish and could take a beating after extended use in the field, time will tell. The grip is a little thin, but if they made thicker or out of a stronger material, that would increase costs on a budget knife. The shade of orange they used is unfortunately a little light, it would look better with a darker shade of safety orange I think. Don't know how they put the decal on, I bet it could come off after some use and washing maybe. The blade diameters on the cutting edges of the far belly towards the point might be slightly different. All in all, not bad.

I'm thinking of making some wood handles for mine, since they say it has a full tang. Has anyone done this?

I have been contemplating it myself, but the rubber handle is very practical. I used mine with the guthook the other day and really liked it.

I've been wondering about the same thing. The small one is on my Christmas list.

This knife looks good... if you like jimping and choils.

Buck makes a good knife at a fair price, but I'll pass on this one.

I've always felt like they represented a decent value given the price. While certainly not the most elaborate knife in Bucks lineup they are very good knives that feature bare bones utilitarian styling.

I put a convex edge on mine like the one Virtuovice does in the videos above. It is now "Scary Sharp". Seems like the 420HC takes a good edge. I recommend it highly.

I have one of the large folders and love it. I'll be buying one of the fixed blades too.
