I know no one has one in hand yet but, What are your thoughts on the new BWBM-LE. As far as user ability, swedge design for batoning. The thickness of it compared to the other Mistress's for chopping and hard use. Or is she just a looker. What do you guys think on this one, just by looking at the pictures.

I think it will be a better chopper than the CG due to the extra weight and thickness of the blade. How much better, now that is the question.

Yeah, I was wondering how she'd stack up to the others. She's definately a looker.

That will remain to be seen how it does against say a CGFBM or FBM LE etc. :)

I already know the answer, but we will have to wait for the users to get some feedback. :D

I don't know about that one, I know you said you've got a NMFBM on the way, You Lucky Porker! :D I guess the guys that ordered them will be telling us all about them next week though. The handle slabs look pretty sweet.

I didn't order one, I am more of a FBMLE kinda guy. :D

I hear that the FBMLE carrys a little more weight for sure. I'm curious to see your chop off with your NMFBM against your FFBM. Their definately heavier than the BWBM in terms of weight. But what niche is the BWBM-LE going to play/fill, do you think.

It's a lighter blade so those who wanted a lighter knife with a 10+ blade.

It would fit below the CGFBM in the lineup.

NMFBM
FBM LE
FFBM
CGFBM
BWM LE

It will be a fine all-around bush knife for those willing to pay that much for a prettier BWM. It is a beauty, for sure.

Looks like your going to have to get a BWBMLE also Ankerson to keep your BM collection up to date. You know with your tests and all. :D

Cancelled mine. Didn't think it would be worth the $250 premium over the CG.

Yes but the BWM-LE is .220 around 1/4 thick versues 0.1875 or 3/16's, which would give the le alittle more chopping power. Just how much I don't know.
But the le certainly more beautiful imho. I guess in the end it just depends upon how much you want to spend.

Since the BWM is a bit thinner, would that make it easier to baton through a log, if splitting grain wise?

Not really because the thicker the blade the wider it will stress the wood making it split easier.

gotcha

the reason I was thinking that was I tried to baton my SOG tiger shark (I convexed it ), which I believe is 0.25 inch thick and man, it didn't really work so well. But the BWM went through in 3-4 hits.

I agree if we're talking about dry, seasoned pine. Everything here has dense knots and seems less inclined to split that way. Of course, I always tend to find Pacific Yew to start batoning on.

I'm really looking forward to using the thinner BWLE for splitting. I think the thinner blade will concentrate the force from the baton down on the edge, rather than pushing against the walls of the log.

If it's that bad just use the chainsaw to cut it in half 1st. :D

I think Greg was on the money when he compared it to a SHBM .... I am thinking it would be a very good knife if so .... I have only handled one SHBM and they feel really special ... very much like a DFLE .... sturdy yet fast and balanced .... lighter than the FBM .... more readily put on your hip for a long Back Woods Trek .... the sort of knife the old guys took when selecting a large Bowie .... and for the same reasons ....

The BWBM CG is a special one off knife .... something new .... although I want one .... the stripping etc would be what I wanted to do to get it right for me .... and I already have a few knives I still need to do this to ....
