Thoughts on canvas micarta for a guard?

love the look of canvas micarta from the edge when used on scales, love the little squiggle lines. It would be a short guard, 1/4” thick, 3/4-1” wide and say 2” long... would the material be strong enough for this application?

depends what size knife and what you're doing with it. If this is for a small hunter it would likely be ok. I, personally, would not trust it as a guard for a camp chopper, bowie or fighting knife.

It all depends, there are battle proven blades with out guards. Take the Viking seax for exzample.

I have made both large rough use blade and smaller blades with Micarta guards. It works fine.

I made a couple bush swords (Japanese inspired machete) with the handle and guard from Micarta. I have also done tanto that way. The linen Micarta works a bit better than the canvas on smaller blades.
