Thoughts on ceramic vs. steel blades?

I have no ceramic blades at this time, but some friends of mine love them.

Pros/cons for a rookie requested.............

Ceramic is brittle (like glass) and harder to sharpen, because its a very hard material. On the other hand, it should keep an edge for longer, but you dont reallly want to chop or baton with it...

I like ceramic for food duties, holds an edge forever.
