This knife looks like a great big bowie for the money. So I'm ready to pull the trigger on this one. Is there any reason not to get it?

Is it made in Japan, China or Taiwan? Does anybody got a review? Please, give me any insight about it...

Thanks in advance.:)

Several Members have reported pretty good stuff on this knife. I think I will sell my old Carbon Five Stag one and pick up one myself. As a user, I don't like the Stag grips.

What exactly is a " Faux Cocobolo Grip"? Is it just a cheaper wood stained to look like cocobolo or is it synthetic?

I thought anything SK-5 was made in China. I could be wrong. If the new SK-5 Trail Master is decent I'd assume the Laredo is too.

I emailed Cold Steel a couple weeks ago to make sure the Tai Pan was still made in Japan. It's made from VG-1 San Mai III. They never emailed me back but I'm pretty sure it's Japan.

Sure beats the San Mai III version. If you get one, please let us know how you like it.

The Cold Steel Christmas specials were a bit anemic this year. When you can't beat eBay, you're really not offering much. Previous years have been worth waiting for. I hope Santa left coal in Lynn Thompson's stocking (that is, if Lynn Thompson didn't swack Santa with a poison dart!).

The CS Laredo in SK-5 is a hell of a lot of knife for the money! Since I usually have a few Bowies available already fitted with one of my Southern Comfort sheaths as package deals, I had to check out the performance of the SK-5 version when the Carbon Vs were no longer made. I used one on some yard waste, both power cuts and snap cutting (I'm into Bowie Combatives), and I'm happy to report that the performance of the SK-5 version is not that far from the Carbon V's performance, and at half the price.

i've compared the orignal Laredo [carbon v,made in USA] with the SK5[made in China] and the differnces are hardly noticible.the faux cocbolo looks like pakkawood.i think it's a hell of a lot of blade for the buck

the made in china are not the new mar tempered ones, the made in taiwan are and they are supposed to be far superior
