"The sturdy yet slender blade is well-shaped and is designed for all varieties of fishing work, but also functions well for the rest of your outdoor life."

I know that the blade is a tapered design beginning with a rather substantial 4.5mm. I guess I'm just curious as to what this blade could be used for other than food prep. Any thoughts?

I commented on that on the Fallkniven forum and wondered why such a thick blade .There was no response from Fallkniven. Some thought it was for filleting large fish with heavy bones.Maybe for this size fish in the photo. Sturgeon caught in the Willemette River OR - 11' long, 1000 lbs !

i can just imagine trying to filet that beast with the f2. lol. when a fish is that big you might as well just gut the fish and bring someone in who is very "axe capable" and just let him swing away. 1" thick steaks would weigh how much? lol

in all seriousness... i just don't get the f2 design and with a blade that thick you might as well just try your luck with the s1. it would be a completely butchered filet... but, if you're throwing it all in a banana leaf or something... who cares.

That is no fish... that's a sea monster.

Speaking only for myself, I expect my fishing knife to be able to handle any task I ask of it whilst fishing (heck it's even been used as a diving knife whilst snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef).

Obviously I use it to clean fish..

and fillet them..

but I also use it to cut up frozen pilchards and open shell fish for bait..

I've used it to open litteraly hundreds of rock oysters..

I also use it to prize Pacific oysters from rocks to eat (here's my brother holding one that has just been removed using the F2)

It also sees duty in food processing both in the kitchen at home and on holidays.

I'm lucky enough to be able to fish in remote locations. If things ever went belly up, I know my F2 would do the job required.

For me its robustness is an advantage.

Bear in mind as always YMMV.

Kind regards
Mick

Mick- Thanks for the pictures. I was going to ask someone how strong they thought the tip was on the F2... but, as is often said in the world... a picture is worth a thousand words.

Thanks again and tight lines!
