I recall someone (TonyM?) receiving a Fallkniven H1 with orange scales and I instantly fell in love with the look. I see that they are available as blade blanks and I'm contemplating snagging one and slapping on some scales of my own.

Anyone have any thoughts about this knife for outdoorsy work? I'm not a hunter and I realize that this knife is primarily designed for hunting, but as with most knives, they are capable of other duties. I know that this blade is on the thick side. I wonder if its convex grind will be well suited for bushcraft.

Also, what are your thoughts on laminated VG-10? I have a couple folding knives in non-laminated VG-10 and I love how they have performed. I can get a great edge on them. They are smaller and I wouldn't subject them to the kinds of tasks I'd use a fixed-blade for. Being stainless, they'd be a good choice for my canoe trips. One less thing to worry about.

Lastly, does anyone, especially a forumite's business sell these blanks for a competitive price? Just curious. Thanks.

I owned an f1 for quite a while it has the same lam steel.. the thing was dynamite... I since gave it to a down and out friend.. but it remains as one of my favorite knives ever!!!! I canlt imagine the h1 being much different.

Yup, thats me. I have not used it hard yet, but It has handled evrything I have thrown at it. It has a very good saberish/convex grind. I love the straight spine. It is great for utility work and battoning. Again I haven't used it enough to comment on the edge holding capability, but Gunknifenut(previous owner) spoke highly of it.

If you take the 5 hour trip to The Wilderness Learning Center This weekend, you're more than welcome to play with it.

I have owned the F1 the S1 and the H1. The VG10 is an amazing steel. I personally like the F1 better, it is a bit lighter and more versatile for my needs. It is the only one I have left. The H1 is a stout, no compromise blade. You will love it.

tonym, I like the way you have decked yours out. Very cool!!!!

I do have the H1, although mine is 3G rather than the VG10. I prefer it to VG10, although the Fallknivens with VG10 are still excellent knives. I consider the H1 to be one of the few knives I have that will run with my Doziers.

WOW..that lanyard and sheath look fantastic...man I miss that one! I will say that that custom was somewhat better than the factory rubber handled ones..as far as grind..only slightly mind you. I think its a fantastic knife, and very tough. Gene

Although not the laminated model this review is good to see what a small knife can do

It performed very strong, so imagine the LAM VG-10

I removed the rubber handle on one of mine and I'm planning on a new handle, the rubber handle model is a little different from the blank sold around.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm glad I read that review especially because of the prying part. I doubt I'd have the guts to do that to my knives, but if it works...

G'day PB.

I've been using a H1 as my hunting / bushcraft knife for 5 years know. I have used the laminated VG10, it's a good steel that will hold a good edge. I am currently using the 3G version.

Your right, it is on the thick side (at 5mm thick). I have thinned the convex on both mine to tailor it to my liking and personally have found to be a very good bushcraft knife.

It has a fast taper point that is very strong and works well for drilling.

IMO, the factory handle is very comfortable in extended use.

Its more than capable of making notches......

BTW, its a excellent hunting knife as well

Hope this helps

Kind regards
