I received my EDC yesterday, and I'd like to post my first impressions:
-The handle!....without a doubt.. the finest ergonomics. I can't say enough about how amazing it feels in hand. The ziricote is super dark and lightly striped. It feels super hard and very un-woodlike to me. The red liners really pop against the dark wood. Nobody does handles as well as Mr. Roy.Period.
-The steel!....The top 1/3 was left forge blacked and rough...a nice visual contrast to the rest of the blade...which is..really thick..I guess I was expecting more of a slicing blade..but this is THICK. I took the EDC to work (a kitchen) and used it to slice some zucchini as well as some various other chores. Although doable, the EDC's blade seems more suitable to bushcrafting duties than to delicate food prep, though it's certainly capable. In summation: STOUT.
-The JRE sheath!...Nothing to write home about, although certainly well made. I trimmed the top 1/8 off, cut the belt-loop off and dipped the whole shebang in amber shellac to stiffen and to waterproof the leather. Most of this was done in an attempt to make this fairly large knife (in my op.) more easily carried without having to resort to belt carry. I loath having to tuck my shirt in on a daily basis (that's why I'll prob. always be a little poor
so belt carry is not realistically an option.
In summation....an amazing EDC if it's not too big..if so, get the BLJ!
