Thoughts on FMV14?

Hey guys, boy did I miss out on the Gladius way back when...

As well as all the other swords since...

I've got my eye on an FMV14, for those who have them or have had them, what are your thoughts?

Especially if you've had a Gladius as well as the FMV14?

I'm also looking at a Hognose war sword. If you've had all three, what are your thoughts comparing them against each other?

Lastly, I've been through much of the threads discussing the various swords... Which of any of them are your favorite and why?

I have an AK47 and a f16. I love the weight and balance of the ak47, but I am also in love with the f16 handle.

My main question is what is the "use" of the sword? My answer is my ak47 is in kydex attached to some molle

Simply to have, I wouldn't be using it as a chopper unless someone came through the front door... Still probably wouldn't reach for a sword

Yeah, I missed all of them. A guy I have make me some cool shit like foot soldiers maces and such says he loves his F16 and that it's the quickest and most nimble in the hand of the different Busse swords he's had...

I'll likely get them all at some point, this is my starting point and I'm thinking FMV14 to begin with

I have a Short Butaniku, AK47, Gladius, F16 and had a TNT15.

The TNT was an amazingly well handling knife. It was the most nimble of the bunch, light and easy to whip around one handed. That being said, a coated TNT would be my recommendation for this blade if your outdoors a lot and or forcing a patina.

The F16 was a bit front heavy, probably very similar to a HNWS. But handles well with a single hand.

The Gladius is a very heavy duty blade it beefy and its to the point. Its got a thick center mass and handles well too but the handle really only is ideal for one handed use.

The AK47 is a great hand and a half blade well balanced and works very very well. Id be hard pressed to pick an aK or a gladius.

The butaniku is a fantastic two handed blade. Its quick and handles much like any other katana blade. Im 5'6" and I wish it had one or two more inches. In length.

I have not held a long butaniku, a long gladius, a HNWS or F14. So I cannot comment on any of those. Sorry I could only refer to 1/3 of your question, I hope that helps.

Totally man, thank very much!

To clarify, do you mean that you would be hard pressed to pick an AK over a Gladius? I think I know what you meant but I'm not sure

I had a Gladius back in the day and currently have an FMV14. Miss that Gladius! They both occupy the same sort of showpiece area for me. That said the FMV seems a little more lively. Went with the FMV this time around as the Gladius demands a pretty premium. I also like the competition finish on my FMV more than my old coated Gladius for a showpiece. Hard to beat the rounded tang treatments on the handle and the fuller on the Gladius though.

That said, I'd probably go with a Scrapyard OMG if I were looking for a sword now. Looks like a lot of sword for a lot less money than the Gladius or FMV14.

That makes complete sense.

I just can't get over the rubberplasticlookinghandles... Might be functional, some might dig it, I just can't get past it.

I like the OMG-15 the best.

Yeah man, that's rad.

I just, I just can't with those handles. She's smoken hot from the front, and nothing out back, small AND flat.

Sorry, if that's your thing, no judgment here. For me, custom shop, burl wood, Micarta even... G10 if I had to... Resperrine or whatever, blech, gross. Even though it functions better in several ways, I can't

So if i had to pick one of these blades I would really have to decide what my end use is.

Choices #1-3 are: Gun, bow, then spear. Due to enhanced range and the benefits afforded by a larger self defense bubble.

Once that bubble does not exist then bladed defense is my next choice. If I am defending my home and I have no guns, and surprise on my side I'd go gladius. Or if I was hiking and ran into a mountain lion and for some unknown reason had a gladius but no ammo (i live in idaho) then I want a shorter stabbier blade and two edges are my choice.

The AK would be a great alternative if you wanted a lighter longer more nimble blade. Its more slash oriented and less stabby. So for brush clearing and unarmored zombie defense would be more effective and with a few more inches of reach. I dont think you'll be dressing rabbits with either, but im sure theres at least one person on here who will do it and let you know how well they work for that ;) Rex Charming Rex Charming

Either blade is awesome, just designed for two different uses. Form follows function, so the ideal choice depends on your needs.

For hanging on you wall and murdering veggies in the garden both will serve you well.

I’d also rather a spear over a sword or knife as a last ditch weapon, but I don’t actually own one.

Do you own a spear and if so would you mind telling me what it is??

Do you hunt with it or is it just for self defense?

My suggestion is to keep your options open and see what you can pick up for a decent deal. I think you will be happy with any of the choices listed above but they are not always available without paying double or triple what they should sell for.

I dont own a spear at this time. I wouldnt mind adding one but I have no spear training so that'd have to get added to the todo list as well, lol.

I dig that man, thank you.

And also want to ask what that price should be for an FMV14 in tigerhide with the nuclear option... 😳

I wouldn’t mind a Busse spear at all…
🤔 Something relatively short with a crossguard of some sort would be great. A half-tang, (Scrapyard style), encased in a “clamshell” of micarta slabs (exposed pommel) would be amazing.
Busse Hog Spear - kinda surprised this isn’t a thing…
