Ok, so this is my first attempt at ever using a belt sander. As you can see, it's ugly as sin :D Any thoughts on how to improve grind quality? I'm using a cheapo harbor freight belt sander. Do I need to build a jig to get consistent grind lines, or just practice a lot freehand grinding? Or do I just need a better belt sander?

Not a maker, but I cant see how practice wouldnt help. Time and a whole lot of belts.
Correct me if I am wrong please

I'm trying to set aside at least an hour a day to work on it, so it'll take me a while but I'll get plenty of practice. Thanks!

I'm a hobbyist, so your mileage may vary, practice and a jig will help; a better sander will definitely help. Which one do you have-the 1x30 or 4x36?

Also take a look at the stickies in the shop talk section, outstanding info there.

The 1x30, I'm trying to start a relatively expensive hobby on a college kid's income :o I will take a look at the stickies, thanks for your help!
