I never buy cheap knives, but I was out the other day and I came across this MTECH knife. I liked how it was small and thought it was be a good for and extra beater/EDC. The knife was REALLY cheap! like under 10 bucks. The blade is 440 steel whats yours Thoughts??? Also the lock up is strong no side to side, or up and down wiggle so thats good. I've never really heard anything about MTECH I was wondering if anyone around here has, and there experience with them. The blade is stamped " China" on the back so I mean thats a dead give-away of the quality......

The blade Length is 1 3/4"

China stamp isn't always bad. Although I have had a Frost or two that are sharp, don't drop that Mtech, even on the table or its all over, the little components that hold them together are cheap as can be. Glad you can enjoy it.

i was looking into getting a mtech that is basically a knockoff of the coldsteel Trail Master, it was a quarter inch thick 440 and it felt nice. the people at the knife shop said it was great and holds an edge pretty well after heavy use. $35 bucks. And im gonna get it, and the dura coat seemed nice. and hey if it breaks ill get another. id say its worth it

You have a clue it might break at 1/4" thick and are still going to buy it? Enjoy.

I have a MTech that looks similar to a sebenza. Its tight as a drum and smooth as silk and stays sharp forever ; ) It was a fantastic deal for $10 MTech is one of the better Chinese made knives, I believe the brand name MTech is based in the USA

I had one. It had a flipper on the back...all the torx screws came out, the lock bar came out after the blade hit it too many times, it had epic blade play and couldn't hold an edge.

I'll just be honest here.
I have a black MTech copy of the Cold Steel Ti-Lite. The blade coating chips like cheap old paint. Fit and finish is crap: the edges on the plastic handle are sharp and the thumb stud rips the skin off your thumb when used a lot. It does lock adequately and 440C blade holds an edge adequately. Haven't used it much so it hasn't fallen apart, at least not yet. When I handle it it just feels plain cheap.

Will that knife do simple EDC tasks? Yeah, prob.
Will it last you a long time in use? Definitely not.
And most of all, will you get any enjoyment from owning and using it. Hell no.

When it comes to cheap China manufactured blades I highly recommend you stick to the reputable manufacturers and their models that have good quality control.

Hi! I am new to the forum so don't know if this is appropriate, but I do custom scales in rock on factory knives. Just did a MTech with jade.

I like the MTech for a cheap knife. Normally I do Buck 110's and Case XX sharktooth.

Some MTechs are okay, if you can check them out first. I have an MTech butterfly knife that's simply amazing for the price ($20.), rainbow anodized finish & phosphorous bronze bushings at the pivots, and designed by Darryl Ralph, no less.

My concern is that they tend to copy other makers' designs; I don't mean copying the ubiquitous Buck 110 types, I mean copying specific design elements of current knives, made by some custom makers. I won't touch an MTech like that.

I won't buy MTechs, or any import, unless I can look it over first.

thx - cpr

I believe I've seen one of these before and I think I'd put them on about the same level as Frost Cutlery :barf:. There are plenty of better knives you can get for cheap that aren't crap, so why settle for crap.

Thats a obvious knock off of my boker plus knife :D:D

Yes its crap an not worth the money, but man do they sell, I order these 50 at a time from hong kong, I get them for $1.25 each and they fly at $7.00.

Thats the only reason I buy them, please note that I also carry true name brand knives, but looks and $$$ is all that matters to alot of people.

It might not be a bad knife if it had a thumb stud, no a one hand opener.
