[The following two posts were split from an ongoing thread in the General Knife Discussion forum and renamed.]
This is a great thread. I"m glad someone mentioned the law of diminishing returns. Too often an argument about a knife's value arises and no one mentions diminishing returns. Its true that better materials, fit and finish, and quality manufacturing will perform better AND also cost more. But there IS definitely a line somewhere where the increases in quality vs price begins to widen exponentially. This is true in all products. But it is also true that said line is subjective. Only the buyer can decide. I don't think there is a way to empirically prove where the line is in any given knife.
On another note I would like to point out that the subject of capitalism has arisen here on this thread. It was my understanding that political opinions and conversations on bladeforums were strictly forbidden (much to the dismay of intelligent people such as yourselves, as this is clearly an example of a civil, discussion of political structures) But I should note that the other day I received an infraction for writing a "political" sentence.
Clearly there exists either some discrimination or some hypocrisy within the bladeforums moderators.
The internet should be a space where the free exchange of ideas (such as the ones we are reading in this great thread) is promoted and facilitated.
Any authoritarian attempt at controlling these free areas is fascist and naive.
