Thoughts on my Native and Calpyso Jr.

Well I have had my Native plain edge and Calypso Jr. for over a week now.

Very happy with both of them, except for the lock on the Native. In a way sadly I think it's the way it should be - as a different Native I tried at a store, had the same feeling lock.

What I mean is, I feel it takes *WAY* to little effect to disengage the lock on the Native. On the Calypso Jr. it takes a good amount more effect to fully disengage the lock and I'm very happy about that. However, I still feel it should take more effort.

The lock back on my SOG Tomcat II, takes more effort then my Native or Calypso Jr.

Then I tried weird grips on the Native, and I was able to fully disengage the lock. Same kind of grip didn't fully disengage the lock on my Tomcat II.

My only other grip about the Native is I wish the entire SpyderHole was out when closed. And I can live with the blade play on my Calypso Jr.

I still looking forward to getting more Spydies though. Especially like the Para Military. I'm just a little worried about paying more for more lockbacks.... Like the Chinhook II (which doesn't even have a Boye dent!!!), Delica, Endura, etc.

Thanks for the mini-review. I have been thinking about buying both the Calypso Jr. and Native. I think I will be looking for a good deal on the Calypso Jr. soon. That is of course unless the Para Military comes out first. I think I'll buy that too ;)

You won't find many knives matching the out-of-box sharpness of the Calypso Jr. or its resharpening ability. Especially not at that price.

My Native (440V Earth) has also a soft spring. But not that soft as to disengage the lock by accident. The reason I don't carry it is that my hand never fits the way it's supposed to.
The Calypso jr., OTO, it's a marvel. Great ergonomics, full flat grind and the lock snaps with a reassuring sound. :) I only wish they make one in S30V and desert tan FRN (hint, hint)
