Thoughts on my new Native...

While working temporarily in Charleston, SC teaching at my agencies academy, I was able to handle a co-workers Spyderco Native. I liked the feel of the knife so I just bought one a few days ago. I already own 4 other Spyderco's but I think this one's gonna be my favorite (at least until I get the Chinook which I saw the other day). It's the perfect size for me, light and I love the blade. IMO, this knife will work Very well as a EDC,(tactical)back-up weapon. Now that I'm back at my permanent station and some of my other co-workers have seen the Native, they want to get one as well. Great knife.....JP

I carried a delica for years, then a mini-AFCK, but most recently I've been carrying a native and it is an amazing knife...it's hard to beat for all around use. I whittled all sorts of very hard woods for more than 8 hours straight at a primitive skills gathering this summer and the native was still pretty sharp...I was very impressed!

I own both the FRN & SS Native. I absolutely love them! They just feel "right" in the hand. I own other Spydies but the Native seems very natural to hold. It's my current EDC.

I've got four--Gin 1 and 440V FRNs, the Blue Native, and the all stainless.

It's one of my very favorites. Heard they were gonna come out with a slightly improved Native, but don't know anything more. The only two improvements I can think of would be a Boye dent along with a smaller handle depression for the lockbar to reduce pressure on the release in some holds (full hammer grip for me) and of course...:)

a LARGER one! Say, 3.75" or so blade length?

Hmmm,..A larger native...Not a bad idea. Now that would be a nice knife. Kinda like the delica/endura setup. I cut my finger with it last night. Now its ofically broke in. Accidents happen when you play with sharp toys.

The Native is my all time favorite Spyderco. A full production G-10 version would be nice.

The Native is also my favorite EDC but one (and only) complaint I have is that when I bear down on the handle to make a slicing cut, when at the end of the stroke the blade is unlocked and loose. Seems from just a slight pressure from the palm of my hand was enough to unlock the blade. Not a good thing.

I do think the "Boye Dent" or depression in the lockbar [as was already mentioned above] would be helpful and an improvement.

Gotta love love those handle ergonomics on the Native, there's no other like it.

In G-10 and 4" spearpoint blade would be a superb next generation Native offering!

The Boye indent is now part of Native production.

Hi Atrox, welcome to the Spyderco forum and thanx for the kind words.

The "new" Native is still 6 months away.

OK Sal, you have my attention. Do you care to divulge any details on the "New Native"? If its anything like the original, put me down as Customer # 1. I was teaching firearms at the USBP academy in Charleston this past year and all of the "new guys" all want one of the Spyderco's with the little BP emblems (after market) on it. You have a well liked product amongst the rank and file. Take Care, JP

I had a Native with the 440V and Boye dent in the lock bar. It does feel great in the hand, and the blade size is just perfect. I had to trade it away, but I would prefer a plain edge anyway. I'll just wait 'til the New one comes out.

I miss that Native, even though I only had it for about two weeks.

Sal,

Puleeeeze, can you tell us a little about the "new" Native?

Obsessing minds want to know!

Jeff/1911.

Info! Info! Info! Info! Info! Info! Info! Info!

I love the Native and am thinking of getting a FRN PE, but if something even better is in the works than I would wait. Ok I cant lie, I would probably get both but could you let us in anyway?

Sorry guys. I probably "slipped" in even mentioning it. The new version is not even in prototyping yet and is more than 6 months away.
