Was just curious of what you guys thought of these? They seem pretty small. How do they stack up against a large blade chopper like a Steel Heart or Battle Mistress?

I just bought one in the Exchange, but since I haven't received it yet, I don't have anything informative to say. So I'll refer you to the review I read before I ordered it.

i have the swamprat version a2t. smaller than i expected it to be. but good balance and generates decent leverage, especially for its size. i just chopped up some boxes, but it performed well.

i would imagine anything larger than sticks would require a blade with more mass and length.

I really didn't understand the little fellow at first, but then after some discussion with another formite about them...they really can serve a purpose in skinning deer and the like. Maybe oneday....but not tonight.

Thanks for the info guys. Was thinking about maybe replacing the BM-E in my GO bag with the PH if it could handle the same chopping with less weight but, I guess not. Still looks like a cool ittle hunk of INFI. Might have to try and find a CG one when I get some cash again.

check out this thread in wilderness and survival : http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=431022

I put the PH in the front pocket/insert of a Maxpedition jumbo fatboy, handy little tool, the purpose is for urban break and rescue.

At least that's what I told my wife why I needed it :p

That's the thread that got me thinking about it. Not really a big deal for me. The BM-E handles any chopping chores I come across (or have so far). Just thought if I could shave some weight without sacrificing chopping, sticking with INFI, then why not.

The PH probably won't outchop a NO, let alone a BM. Jerry made it for his dad as a gardening tool, which it's excellent at. I put mine through its paces several times against better chopping hatchets, and came to the conclusion that I should keep it within its intended specs. But I can tell you it's great for pruning. It may not be magic, but it's still infi. Mine hasn't needed a touchup since I got it several years ago, and I use it every spring and fall, and anytime inbetween when I have a smallish wood working job around the house. I also keep a Ratchet in my range bag, with the intention of using it for making field expedient bipods, cutting foliage for a hide, and other such small wood work that might be cumbersome with a bigger knife but difficult with a lightweight knife.

It's a very nice tool for its intended purposes, and I'm glad I got mine a long time ago. But it's probably not a replacement for anything you'd put in a Go-To bag unless your Go-To bag is a secret compartment in your 007 briefcase.

I like'em...

I carry it out elk and deer hunting along with my Groovemaster or once in awhile when I'm going "light" just a folder. I view it as an "emergency tool" ....a lightweight chopper that can skin if req'd.... trim vines and limbs ...shooting lanes around a hide when hunting.... can chop to make kindling/firewood if I need to ......quickly go through bones if I need to and the like.

Small.... easily fits in my daypack....I don't like to carry large blades on my belt and like to keep the PH stowed..... kind of a "jack of all trades" but "master of none."

I've got the SR101 version, and agree that it's not heavy enough to replace a SH or BM. It's center of gravity is near the front of the handle/choil so it isn't really front-heavy.

I use mine for yard work, but for limbs thicker than 3" it takes quite a few swings to get through.

Had one and sold it, got a Ratchet and sold that also, but never really understood it.

Think of it as a pukko with a handle that will also handle other chores and the light begins to come on.

I kept looking at it as a chopper and that was the mistake I made.

Bet my wife would love it in the kitchen, and I'd bet it work real nice for large game dressing.

like wet said.

it's invaluable in a hunters pack, it's the best "meat/bone hatchet" made.

Thanks guys. Was just looking through the nothing but pics thread and have now come to the conclusion, I HAVE to get one. I saw someone had one with polished spine and logo :eek::eek:

I too owned both at one time and let em get away. My mistake was expecting them to be "choppers" to replace a 6" (NO) sized blade on my belt. Not long enough or heavy enough for my taste. Of course I prefer 9"+ choppers, so...:D
