The Spyderco Kumo looks like a very attractive fixed blade knife with Japense influence. Does anyone know if the top of the blade is sharpened? I can't tell from the picture or description. If anyone has used this knife before, please share with us your experience. I would like to pick one up myself.

the tops not sharpened.i EDC mine and like it alot.
i've heard some people say that they dident like the newer style sheath,i,ve got a older one. it holds the blade in just fine.
i think there great.

Many jurisdictions outlaw double edged daggers, and the Kumo with both edgers sharpened would certainly qualify. So, I suspect that Sal Glesser specifies that it be left that way at least until the end line user sharpens it.

I got the Kumo mainly for its looks, but it has proven to be quite a handy little fixed blade. Although the Kumo was designed –also- as a tactical fixed blade, I find the overall size and thin narrow design quite useful as an EDC for around the house. The Kumo is as thin and sharp (edge and point) as any Spydie folder. The edge geometry and tip sharpness compare favorably to the Calypso jr.. To me, thje Kumo is a looker that works much better than expected as a (plain) utility knife around the house. I prefer folders for actual carry, but if I would carry a fixed blade the Kumo is thin and short enough. I expect the Kumo is one of those “didn’t know I had it on me ‘till I needed it” type of knives (more pics and thoughts here).

Although I've never handled one, I really like the kumo. I would totally buy one if one of two conditions were true: (1) I had a spare $120 to blow on a knife I would never use, or (2) I lived in a place where it would be socially acceptable for me to carry a fixed blade everywhere. If the second were true, I would have no problem spending the money on such a great looking knife (which I know is also functional in the spyderco tradition). It's my ideal size for a personal knife and I love the japanese inspired handle wrap with the spyder menuki. I guess I'll just have to wait until our society evolves a little more.

I am not a big fan of wrapped style handles in general but, the blade grind on that knife is gorgeous. Another very nice review Mr. Blond.

I got to check one out a while ago. It was very very sharp! Were it not for the ParaMil and the Spydercard that I bought from the dealer that day, I may have taken the Kumo. You can't have it all.
