Thoughts on the Bob Dozier folders?

KaBar x 3.jpgI have seen these Dozier blades on a few websites and they are priced right- usually about $20-$25 including shipping on auction sites. I bought one because it looked like a sturdy blade that would be a good EDC option for me. I am pretty impressed with these for the money and I ended up buying 3 of them.
The size is great for my pocket at 4-1/8 " long and there is a lanyard hole as well as a pretty strong pocket clip that can be mounted on either side of the blade. The blade itself is just a shade under 3" and a bit on the thick side so it feels sturdy. When locked open, the blade has another 3" of tang behind it and the lock mechanism appears to work just like the one on my all time favorite folding blades- the Gerber LST.
The one gripe that I have about these knives is the placement of the thumb stud: it is located just too close to the end of the knife for my big thumbs to open comfortably- then I noticed that there is also a Ka Bar Dozier folder with an opening (like a spyderco) instead of the thumb stud - another quick visit to ebay and I ordered this version for myself and Wow- I think I have found the perfect EDC that wont break the bank if it is lost!

who else has one of these and what are your thoughts on them? I will try to post a pic later today.

my wife has the pink one it came sharp as heck smmoth opening and aus8 is not bad steel at the price point i,m going too get myself one soon1

Excellent knives. They make great gifts for people who aren't hobbyists but want a no-frills working knife. I like that they now have so many variants.

I have had one now for some months and think that it ranks right with Opinels and Moras for being a great value for the $$$ spent. I have been using it for a real "beater" and it is a tough little knife.

I got one in black, drop point. Pretty much agree with everything you said. Great pricepoint for what you get, and indeed the thumbstud doesn't allow for smooth opening IMO.
Another minus was that the locking bar has not been rounded or smoothed, so the edges are rather sharp. A boye dent might have been more comfortable as well.

I think the Delica is quite similar and performs better on all domains (opening, grip, feel, steel) but you pay more. I didn't regret buying one and will keep on using it. Great for the price. I wonder if it would be a lot more costly to round the edges of the locking bar though? BUT, that's nothing I can't do myself with some sandpaper.

I was thinking of putting up a review on this blade in a month or so, comparing it to two similar blades in materials/execution. Might still do.

Again, I do not regret buying one, but there could be some small improvements made.

I got one back when they were made in 440C. Great knife. I've had it in my truck toolbox for years, and it has always served me well.
My daughter now has a pink one in her backpack, though so far, she just gets to carry it rather than use it. Soon though, she'll start learning.
We sold a ton of these things at Blade Show: zombie green, coyote brown, foliage green, blaze orange, black.

They are awesome knives for the price andof you lose it your not out $100. They a new zombie green color that is very bright and pretty sweet if you like that sort of think.

One of the best performing deals in the knife industry IMOP.

I have been using them at work and edc for 6 or 7 years now. Probably have a half dozen friends/relatives I have given them of various sizes and they all use and love them.

I think they are a good value and reflect the hefty design characteristics of Bob's folders. I keep wanting to get one of Bob's folders. Pricey, at least for me. But I have three or four of his fixed blades.

I love mine. It's my EDC. Decent quality, super light, and inexpensive, so Im not worried about abuse. I've had mine for 5 years.

What he said ^!

I have seen and handled the real deal direct from Bob and Dan, and have owned a few of the Dozier Arkansas Made fixed blades. The full size liner lock was a nice knife, but had some sharp handle points that I didn't agree with. I've given away quite a few of the Dozier folders as gifts, but as a knife user, I'd like to see some collaborations in D2. I don't know if Ka-Bar has the tooling to make a higher end folder, but it would be nice to see.

They are a superb value, especially when you get them for free...I received 2, the mini-folder and the regular, from some unknown person on this forum.:D
