Hey guys, I'd like your take on the Byrd Cara Cara in G-10 handle with a Plain blade. How about the FRN handled Byrd Cara Cara? any better or worst? it is 3.8 oz (109 g) compared to the G10 version which is 5.6 oz.

is it a good buy?
how is the blade?
does it keep an edge?
is it heavy?
easy to use/easy to open?
goods and bads are wanted.

I have a Byrd crossbill, actually 2 of them and I found the G10 to open much easier and be much lighter then the SS version. Both blades were fairly sharp right out of the box. I was impressed with both my crossbill byrds and wanted to try another one. I might actually give this to a friend to have/use if he will actually carry it. We both work with horses and he went out and bought a friggen 1.5-2 inch SAK (the smallest one possible which is for keychains) which has such a small blade it is laughable to try to think about him trying to cut thru a lead rope for a horse or one of the other heavy duty ropes which hold them/restrain them; espeically if someones life depended on it, could be mines one day... I personnaly carry a CS 6 incher Ti-Lite which is overkill but I'm just weird like that...

I would say the Byrd Cara-Cara is a good value for the money. The blade holds a decent edge and is easy to sharpen. The G10 version is heavier and I like that for the work I do. I prefer a full flat grind but the saber grind makes for a fairly stout blade. Once you get used to the eye hole you can open the blade with a flick of your thumb. You may want to look at the Tenacious for another good value knife with G10 handles, a full flat grind and easier deployment. I think either one is a good choice.

Byrd G10 Cara Cara was my edc for a while. Great knife for the price. A little thick for slicing but good overall blade geometry and sturdy. I lost mine when it was clipped to my backpack or I would still be carrying it.

The FRN feels like crap. I would definately go with the G10. If you plan on buying it, wait for the Cara Cara 2. it is in a FFG.

The G-10 Cara Cara is an excellent value for the money. The new model will have a flat grind and should be a much better slicer.

Good knife for the money, I have a few different models, and the G10 Caracara is probably my favorite.

Sold my BM 805 and kept my G-10 Cara Cara. A little thick at the edge, but it has been an excellent knife except for the blade is slightly off center. It doesn't touch the side, just irritates me. But for $24, I have learned to deal with it. I missed out on the Cara Cara Plain Edge Rescue. That would have made such an awesome wharncliffe blade with some judicious grinding.
