I've owned an Aviator, and just traded off my GB 5.5. I really liked both, but they weren't me. Nothing wrong with either knife.

Except for the blade coating, double guard and serrations, I really liked the GB :o. I realize that it's a fighting knife. However, I'd like to see a wilderness knife from CRK that doesn't have the double guards/serrations/coatings, and that is preferably in A2.

I realize that I have my options, and I have fulfilled them with other factory and custom makers. I realize that other than the one piece line, CRK doesn't really make wilderness based users. I have pretty much gotten rid of all my other tacticool folders, and carried my Sebs exclusively.

I just wanna see CRK's interpretation of a basic drop point or spear point hunting/backpacking/utility style knife. Maybe 4-5" satin A2 blade, single guard is okay, 4-4.5" handle.

Anyone else agree/disagree?

I had a spearpoint Project 1 for a time and it was a decent knife.

That's the seven inch blade version, but its not overly heavy.

The A2 steel held a great edge and sharpened up easily enough. The inch or so of serrations didnt bother me although I normally detest serrations.

The double guard wasnt large enough to become a major problem. I'm not the world's expert but I would say its a pretty decent all round wilderness blade for the heavier tasks.

Matched up with a good SAK like the One hand Trekker you could do a lot worse!

One of my most used fixed blades is the Mtnr 1, I think of that as a just about perfect backpacking / wildernes knife.

The PS is also a nice small knife that would be great for those sort of tasks but could do with some scales perhaps.

I'd like to see a PS with scales as well.

I've owned/used a Shadow III and a 5.5 Green Beret... both of them had grinds that were too thick for me. I've owned and not used LOTS more... same thing. The only one that comes to mind that I have not touched personally is the Mountaineer series, the PS, and the Inyoni... they all seem to have a thinner grind than the rest... I may decide to pick up a Mountaineer II before the summer's over... funds will tell!

At least a few models can be special ordered without serrations directly from CRK (I have a Project II on the way with a plain edge). And I think one BF member had one on order with a single guard... I can't recall who it was though. I have found CRK's service to be excellent. If you are considering an A2 one peice knife, but don't like care for the standard models, give them a call. I'm sure they will help ya out ;).
