Thoughts on the Kirby Lambert Inferno

I have been looking around recently with the intent of buying my first custom folder. This knife seems like a great folder. To those who own or have handled one, what are your thoughts? Price seems reasonable. What is the wait time like? Could people post pics of different handle colors or links to if possible.

Thanks in advance for any input. I have some wonderful knives I carry daily, including a Sebenza and a Strider, but the time has come to own a custom. And man this knife is classy. Reviews seem positive as well, but I always have to ask here.

Have you tried the "search" function yet?

I consider the Lambert Inferno to be one of the best buys in high end knives. It will serve you well.

It was totally helpful...the "search" function works for all now, and there is a wealth of information, right here on BladeForums, and it encourages a bit of critical thought.

YOU could try to do a quote decently while you are at it!

Screw a bucketful of nice.

That wasn't very nice or helpful

Kirby Lambert makes some terrific knives, if you are seriously considering one, I would say go for it.

I have one with CF bolsters and tan G-10 scales. I bought mine from a dealer. These are first rate high quality folders. His grinds are superb. Fit, finish and tolerances are all beyond perfect. Very few knives are better in the custom market, especially for what is asked for them. Kirby is a stand-up first rate guy and I support his work. I highly recommend the Inferno, fits my hand like a glove.

I have no opinion on the Inferno, but I do have A Snap with the "multi grind" and the "lightning strike carbon fiber" and IKBS. It is one hell of a nice knife and Mr. Lambert is one hell of a nice guy (you'll see from your first convo with him). I aquired mine from the Canadian Knifemakers Guild spring show this year and was able to talk about his knives for quite awhile. There are some threads here ( I think in the Canadian section) that outline the show with pictures of what he brought. Search for
"CKG spring show" also there are videos on utube about the show that display his knives. You will not be disappointed with a Lambert knife:).....I originally bought mine as a user but haven't been able to do it yet..just a really pretty knife.

Thanks for all the input. I did do the search, but there was not too much discussion. Just a lot of for sale or trade. I really like this knife and I am leaning towards an all g10 handle. I saw a pic of some custom smooth g10 handles that were awesome.

Spending this kind of money on a folder is a pretty big deal for me right now. But I really want this. I am worried, because everytime I find a custom I want, they get hugely popular and the wait time becomes forever or unavailable. I don't mind waiting (even a while), but should I order this ASAP, or is OK to wait a bit, until I can save up some loot. It would kill me to have to sell it to fix my car or somthing. I also have a kid who takes priority over high end knives.

I guess my question is ... Do I have to worry about this knife becoming unattainable in the next few months to a year? I feel like his work is so good, that it is only a matter of time before he gets really popular. The knife world seems to work like that sometimes.

What is the wait time like now?

Well you can always make another kid, but knives become discontinued. joking, I know bad taste, but couldn't resist. sorry.
Kirby Lambert has a website that he can be contacted through and all your querries could be answered as fact, as opposed to our speculation. Call him and pose the questions to him, because he will have a better idea as far as availability goes. If you tell him what you want he can tell you if it possible and a rough idea on completion, and I'm sure he will have pictures of knives that he can discuss with you. I am not exagerating when I say he is a super nice guy that is more than accommondating.
Good luck, if ya pull the trigger I don't think you will be disappointed .

Kirby is a great guy, and if you call him or e-mail, he can give you all the information you need.

If we knew, really knew who would be the next hot maker it would make things a lot easier, maybe less fun, but easier. Kirby has been making knives for quite a while, and he is a disciplined maker, with steady output.

Here is a sad little truth about custom knives, or anything else that is expensive and not completely necessary.....there is ALWAYS something that will come up that might have you looking at that knife like it needs to be sold now...car, refridgerator, kids, women...whatever. What you should do is save up for the Lambert, and save the SAME amount of money you are going to spend on it as a backup stash of cash....that way, you can hit the money if need be, and not have to look at the knife as possible income.

Worked for me.

+1

I bought an Inferno directly from him about two years ago. Emailed him directly, we sent a few emails back and forth about what color/kind of scales I wanted, no problems. It was a 5-6 month wait if I remember right, but could be off on that. Great guy to work with.

So I officially placed my order about 10 minutes ago. Woohoo. I am getting an Orion, I prefered the slightly smaller size and look as compared to the Inferno. Getting the CPM 154CM steel, single thumb stud, black carbon fiber bolsters and black G10 handle. This knife looks awesome.

Kirby was a great guy to talk to. Wait time is around 6 months.

To say I am ecstatic would be an understatement. First custom folder.

Oh and I plan to use it for sure. Thanks again for all of the input.

Would love to see some pics if anyone owns this already. Hard to find anything on the internet. Seems like there are only a handful of people that own one of these.
