Not to get all mushy. But in this day and age, you just don't see this.

In all my years with all of my hobbies, many of both. I've never experienced such a supportive, upbeat, and generous community of enthusiasts.

From here on BF to the wise older gentleman that runs the register at the fuel station up the street. Dealings in the exchange, true friends made, and passing acquaintances around my profession. A great bunch of people.

A few years ago I was standing in line to get a pack of smokes. Behind the counter an employee was opening a box with a great looking Kershaw. I asked about it and he shared the history of it. Plus gave me a quick shakedown on the pros and cons of the design as he sees it.

Several times a week I'm in there. Bill always takes a moment to ask about and take a look at whatever knife is on me. Who made it, blade steel, what country is it from, etc. Even if the line is three or four deep, he quickly inspects, opens and closes it.

This morning I handed him my PJ SHF. And it hit me. It's a perfect fit for him. Through some light protest, I asked him to him to keep it and use it. Told him I'd bring him the box next time I see him. Hope it makes him a good one.

That's actually the third of mine I've randomly given away in as many weeks. Two small fixed blades and that folder.

Realized this morning that it is the generosity of other knife folks that is contagious. Sharing something that you know will make anothers life easier in some small ways, just feels right. Its not about free stuff so much as the sentiment.

Thing is, I've received no less than five knives as gifts from people here. My seven year old son has a collection, his nicest pieces have been gifts from true friend that I have made right here on BF. A gorgeous custom fixed blade, an Ontario Rat, Opinel #10, a kukri, and much more. My son and I have, in turn gifted several to his daughter that is the same age. She is proficient with a blade and already an enthusiast. I have no doubt they will continue this tradition and be a fine crop of knifers. :)

People have held knives they could have easily sold, taken payments while I move some to cover, taken trades when they didn't need to and sold pieces for astoundingly prices. Because they want you to have it, they understand how much you want it.

Passionate Craftsman work so hard for a humble profit. Members freely share valuable knowledge and experience. Mods give time, effort and take headaches every single day. To keep this place place tidy and productive for all of us.

A port in a storm, what a place. Really want to say thanks for having me.

So nice to read honest appreciation for the wisdom and generosity of others. I have been lurking here for a few weeks and some day I am going to ask a couple questions and hope to find out what I have. I have no qualms in dealing with this group. Thanks.

There was a time, around two decades ago, when I did a lot of trades in the forums and I can say two things: first, there was a lot of trust involved and that has been a characteristic of the knife community, and second, although I never asked or expected more than what I had traded, I received several gifts varying from candys to a couple more knives than expected. I have often added a little extra or a souvenir to the packages I sent, too.
All these years have passed and I still have contact with some of these great people. :)

I scored a big box of steel whiskey cubes. If I send one out, sold or for work. Like to throw a handful of those and some koozies or random swag in the box. The dudes at WOK should have some real cold whiskey at this point. lol
