I am considering a hiking/field/survival bag. I want to have it on the ready so when I am going afield, or in that quick moment when you least expect it ( zombie outbreak ) I can have a bag that I can just grab and go. In all seriousness.......I want a good field bag and have been looking at the Maxpedition Jumbo E.D.C. bag. I believe the green one would work for me the best as it will be mostly used in the field. I see they have other similar models. I would like your thoughts on this bag or any others. I see this E.D.C. is a newer model, how different is this over the older model ??? I see many pages on the maxpedtion line here, so this is the place to come as always for me.........I look forward to your replies and Thanks in Advance !

The edc is slightly lighter built than the original. The police model has police oriented stuff such--they have a link on their website about the differences. Unless your gonna carry a lot of ammo id opt out of the police version.

Back to the edc, I think the main difference is that is has a lighter grade material (800 strand rather than 1000 of the original nylon). The front pouch is also slightly different with some elastic holders. Personally, I prefer the original and find it to be perfect. Again, check out the vid on their site it shows all the differences nicely

Ive carried a Lunada gearslinger for about 6mos now, and love it. Maxpedition is great stuff.

I have a Jumbo right now, and was looking at the new Mongo. I really like it, for daily carry, mainly for the ease of carrying the large 32oz Nalgene bottle. However, packing for an "extended" stay, I would go with the Condor or Falcon packs. Maybe the one strap backpacks from Maxpedition. The Versipacks are great for day hikes or replacements for "messenger" bags. I wouldn't use mine for anything over one day though.

I'm getting an EDC for christmas I think, although I like the foliage color line and Maxped doesn't have the EDC in the color I want. I need to get hands on so I know what size I'm dealing with too, I'm ahving a hard time invisioning just how big this bag is.

Thats my biggest problem also. The more I look at their site, I see many similar models. The Jumbo Versipack, the Fatboy Versipack, and the Jumbo EDC I was originally looking at. They all look similar. The first 2 offer more color options. I first saw the EDC, but I like the digi-camo, but since the EDC does not have it, I thought the green would do............oh decisions, decisions......I feel like I deciding on another sebenza....lol.

If you need photo's for reference, let me know about the lunada, It's still on hand.

the Police model is designed for carrying firearms and lots of spare mags to a scene, and rapid access to mags, whereas the EDC is geared towards secure carry (nothing falls out) of EDC stuff.

great review here:

The police model will not suite my needs as I will not be carrying gun magazines and such, I like the EDC model, but after furthur looking into their different models, I see the 0412 jumbo versipack and the fatboy versipack that look similar. I am definately looking for security ( so things do not fall out ), so perhaps the EDC will be best. I will continue to look and listen to comments before I decide. Thanks !
