Thoughts on the MiniBuck

I'm looking for a small, locking knife with a blade under 2" for whittling. I've been looking at the MiniBuck because it's a reasonable price to buy multiples, and I also like the option of the orange handle. My questions are on the durability of it - I like the handle, but I wonder how sturdy it is; and also how well the knife as a whole would hold up under pressure. Any thoughts or experience with this knife?

IMO They're pretty cool little knives considering the price. While not a hard use knife by any means the handle should prove to be more than sturdy for whittling and light woodworking. With that being said I'm no expert whittler by any means but I think that for extended use I might prefer something with a slightly larger handle.

A larger handle definitely would be nice, but I've found that it's not that easy to find a knife that has a blade that small with a significantly longer handle. I'd rather have a small blade with a small handle than a larger handle with the larger blade - depending on what I'm whittling, as the blade tends to get in the way on smaller things. I do own a Flexcut, but sometimes I just want the aesthetic appeal of whittling with a regular old pocket knife. Also, if I want to do some whittling other than at home, I want to be able to throw the knife in my pocket without having to worry about a sheath, which is another reason for a folder. I often whittle for shorter periods of time, so the shorter handle isn't always an issue. Thanks for your comment!

ive always preferred one of the 300 series knives for whittling. preferrably(sp?) the 301

If you're looking for something a bit fancier but the same size and the MiniBuck, there is also the Buck 505.

The 283 Nano Bantam would be another option. Handle is better ergo'd for whittling. I like my 425, but its a keychain knife for me.

The Nano, with its finger groove/guard, will limit your grips and make it hard to whittle. Simpler handle, the better for whittling.

The 300 series would be excellent, except for the fact that I've sworn off all non-locking folders for whittling. When I first started whittling, I had a little accident where the blade closed on my finger... Don't really want to repeat that. The 505 and the 55 are on my wishlist, but at the moment I'm looking for something a little cheaper to help others get started. The Nano is a possibility, too. Thanks for the replies.
