Looks like the Big Dyad is finally getting around. I've not seen one in hand yet, but the photos are pretty self-explanatory. Anyone got one yet and how would you rate it? And what's the general going rate for one? Thanks gang!

PS - What about a sheath - any recommendations?

I got to look at one at the Spyderco booth at The Blade Show in Atlanta. Very neat knife. You couldn't buy one there but I ordered one. Can't wait to get it. I saw a couple on Ebay last night.

It is a very attractive piece that is a good standard size. I suggest giving the pocket clip a try before finding a sheath for it though. The clip point has a definite wicked streak in it, despite the shorter cutting edge.
There is a tendency for the sheepsfoot to compress futher into the handle when it is closed(and clip point open) and gripped tightly. Other than that, I think it is an excellent new model.

I don't know if you guys saw it, but i posted under my name (Anthony Cheeseboro) last week about my Dyad. I think it is one of the most practical Spydercos ever designed. It is not very thick and fits pretty comfortably in a jeans watch pocket. The Micarta scales have a fairly rough finish that gives a good grip and will not look too bad if it is scratched. The blades back lock like the Dyad lightweight. The only drawback is its size. The Dyad is large knife: about 8 3/8" with the serrated blade and 8" with the plain blade. The plain blade has very large choil, the result being that the cutting edge is only 2 3/4" on that blade. The plain blade is thin and flat ground, it is a great slicer or filet type of blade. I could see making this knife a #1 carry piece if versatility is a high necessity. The serrated blade is just as large as a full size Rescue's and can do just much work. The only drawback is the overall size of this knife. In a 3" jurisdiction it is well over the limit. I would love to see this model with 2.5-3" blade.

Blades are about 3.75" for the sheepsfoot and 3.4" for the clip point. Edges are about 3.5" and 2.8". The clip is set up so that if you draw the knife in a hurry the "rescue" blade is handiest.

Jim March, if he finds this thread, may see this knife as an attack-trained muskrat, with both blades open for forward and reverse grip at the same time. Spyderco advises against opening both blades at once, and a couple of years ago Sal showed me how somebody who tries that could get badly hurt, but I don't speak Martial Arts well enough to explain it.
