Thoughts on the Raven?

I just ordered a raven as a knife to carry while running and on the boat, since the handles sounded different and were supposed to perform well with wet/sweaty hands. However, I never hear much about this knife, it seems to have been overshadowed in its' day by the cqc7 and then the commander.
Aside from needing a wave, what other problems/deficiencies have there been with the raven?
cheers,

Hey Derek,
I was thinking about getting a Raven myself not too long ago, so I did a search of the forums for the Raven, and from what I gather, the handles are somewhat flimsy due to the fact that there are no liners except for the lock. I don't know, I've never seen one in person let alone handled one. Hopefully Emerson changed the configuration and added liners to both scales. Good luck and let us know what you think.

Hi Brigadier,

The Raven does in fact have titanium liners, they are nested into the Kydron handles. It is a pretty good knife for lighter duty chores, although the G-10 handle models are more sturdy IMOP. I had one of the first ones from back in 97, and it was one of the sharpest knives I have ever owned, wish I still had it.

IMHO the Raven is a great knife. Someone once described the Specwar as being a Raven on steroids... so a Raven is a Specwar without the performance enhancing substances.
There is nothing inferior about the Raven. The molded Kydron handles are great. They are different from the G-10, but they are strong and corrosion resistant just the same. They feel different in the hand. They have "traction grooves" for better handling. The liners, which in fact are on both sides (the Raven also has the double detent)are "nestled" into the handles.

They are available in all the same configurations as the Specwar and CQC7 (ie tanto, spearpoint, black, satin, serrated, non serrated, green or black handles) except there is no lefty version available.

I agree with you though, it is all too often ignored. If I remember right, it was EKIs first production knife, and I think it is still their least expensive.

Sorry, but the CQC7s are cheaper[less the waved model].

well, I should have my tanto raven coming in today. i wanted a clip point, but roger at bayou laforche only had tanto in stock, and I hate to wait. he has them for $112 and can get any config you want. Then, last night on ebay I picked up a new clip point for only $89, new. could not pass it up. now only if the wife will see it that way!
Also, roger has mach-1's for I think $119, if anyone is interested. he's a great guy to do business with.
cheers,
