New skyline variants?

Hello all, i recently switched back to the kershaw skyline as my edc and i got to thinking. Had there been any zt variant of the skyline? I did a google search and came upon one model that i can kinda see the resemblance, but nothing that definitively i would go out and say “skyline”. I got this idea when looking at the link/bareknuckle higher end variants when compared to zt models like the 0770. Also with kershaw doing sprints different skylines would be interesting in terms of steel/scale upgrades. I know they have had the cf/s30v and other scale sprints previously; but i think it would be nice for some new variants. What say you?

From what I understand they're discontinuing the Skyline. The ultimate version might have been the S30V/blue G-10 one made for Bladeforums/1SkS. I didn't know there was a CF/S30V one too - I never paid too much attention to the Skyline.

ETA: With the Skyline being discontinued (if indeed that's the case), and Kershaw doing sprint run special editions of knives (so far there's the yellow Random Leek and the CF/M390 Bareknuckle), it's entirely possible that they'll do one last Skyline to "go out with a bang". I don't know how likely that is, but you might want to keep your eyes peeled.

I'm surprised that they'd discontinue the Skyline, and I'm not the only one. From what I've seen, it was one of their more popular knives.

I don’t think there is a ZT variation of it, as ZT is synonymous with “American excess”, meaning “bigger, tougher, sexier”. I do think if you’re a Kershaw fan and want to step into the realm of ZT, the 0562 or 0452 are good places to start.

If you want to stick with Kershaw, that yellow random leek is a very nice knife if you can get it... so is the s30v blur.

Some of the Sinkevich designed ZTs look more practical as general-use EDC knives like the Skyline is/was, rather than a beefy, pocket filling tank.

I’m disappointed that Kershaw is discontinuing the Skyline. Since it gets tons of good reviews, it would be nice to see Kershaw come out with some upgraded versions of the Skyline.

That sucks that the skyline is getting discontinued. I’ve been away from the knife scene for a while so this is news to me. I do have two zt including a 0561; but the specific model i said was similar in terms of my research was the 0780, at-least thats what was stated in an old bfc thread. It would be cool if kershaw did a grand send off for the skyline though. What got this rolling was the sprint 7777 that i picked up.

Not counting the XL Skylines and the fixed blade Skylines, I think there were around 18 variants over its life. There were also some one-offs. The last picture are all some one-off custom Skylines.

Maybe the fact that so many Skyline variations have been done didn’t let it fit well with the new Kershaw sprint run program.

I love the Skyline but in a way it represents the pinnacle of knife tech from 1998. It doesn’t compete well in a world of CNC titanium and caged bearings.

It also looks like Kershaw has committed a large part of their domestic manufacturing capacity to the Launch series.

I was never really smitten by the Skyline, to be honest. Thanks to this thread, I decided to pick one up before they're gone. It's ok but nothing spectacular, IMO. I think it would have been far better dropping that spearpoint. To test my theory, I played with Windows Paint...

Way better, IMO. Maybe I should look into getting it done to mine...

That looks amazing! I love a clip/drop point style blade. Thats some innovation there. I would buy that in a heart beat.

I never paid much attention to it... I bought one years ago and carried it for a week then it got thrown in a day bag and forgotten about. - I think it was one of their more popular knives years ago for sure - but as with everything else things change I guess. Either way for the price it was a fun little knife, but not something I’d really put my faith in if I needed a something solid...

I was more upset when the discontinued the 710... that was one heck of a blade for $100 back in the day... just a pain to sharpen which is why I think they ended up discontinuing em.

I voted yes only because I know the skyline was fairly popular. I never had one myself.

Wish Kershaw (and others) used more 14C28N. Under rated steel imo.
