Hi all,

Finally got some extra cash and have a Lone Wolf Tighe on the way. I'm also looking for my first assisted opener. I really like the looks of the SOG Flash series, however they seem completely overshadowed by the Kershaw Onion line. I'd like to hear some thoughts on the SOG Flash's. Are they in the same league as the Kershaws? Thanks in advance.

I guess it depends on what your tastes are. I have a Zytel handled SOG Flash and it's a nice lightweight folder, but I'd personally go with a Kershaw. If your budget allows, check out the Camillus Dominator.

I have a SOG Flash I in zytel, it is my first and only SOG. It's a cool little gadget knife because it is so small (compared to my BM 806) and can be fun to play with or entertain friends with. The opening(feel) differs from the Kershaws I've handled but it is still solid. The clip let's it sit nice and deep in the pocket hiding it from people's view which I really like about it. The blade is pretty good, nice and sharp out of the "box." I think that the Flash II with aluminum handle would feel more sturdy, but I like the knife I have as it is. New, it is a little stiff, but playing with it works things in and loosens it up nicely. The lock-up is great on it and I really like the way the lock works, they only problem I have is that it is very difficult to use lefty even though I am righty just because it is a "one-handed knife." For what you can get it online for, it's a great buy.

mine will be the flash II with the zytel handle. half serrated and black TiNi blade. How do those coating hold up? whats the difference between that and tefflon

I was thinking in getting a flash II for selfdefense.

The quick opening system, the relative big blade and the deep pocket carry seems like a good combination for that use.

¿What do you think? ¿Is a good choice?

Sorry for my engish :o

Alberto, The SOG Flash is one cool knife, fast and strong, a little big I think for front pocket carry, but may fit you fine. The blade comes very sharp, and the knife is fun to work with, you just have to remember and keep your fingers out of the way of blade travel, meaning, any part of your finger that goes over the pivot area while opening will "foul" the free movement of the blade, and slow it down. This takes about 3 minutes of opening to learn this. This really does not happen too much with the Flash II, but happens often (for me) with the Flash I, because it is a lot shorter, therefore making my fingers go to far out on handles, sometimes getting in the way of blade travel.
I have Zytel Flash II and Aluminum handle Flash II, Both are sweet knives, I like the aluminum a little better because it feels heavier. But the Zytel is perfect for EDC carry.
Robbie Roberson ;)

I have a Zytel handled Flash II and really like it. Out of the box it came very sharp and the lock up is really good. I'm right handed and have no problems at all opening the knife right or left handed. Even after having surgery on 4 tendons in my left hand, 2 thumb and 2 wrist extender tendons. One of the main reasons why I selected the Flash II is because I could open it easilly open and close it with my left hand. Opening it left handed became second nature to me after only a few tries. Where as I struggle opening and closing other folders left handed.

Not only is it easy for me to open and close with either hand, the handle is very comfortable and the blade is a really good utilitarian shape. Have used mine in the kitchen a number of times for food prep and really like the shape. The low ride pocket clip is nice since it hides the knife rather well and doesn't draw much attention.

SOG has a winner with the Flash Series. I really like mine and recomend them to friends.:) Now, some people don't like Zytel handles which is okay because you can always get an aluminum handled version which are also sweet! Get one, I think you'll like it.

I hava had SOG flash 2 with zytel handels and I like it very much. The locksystem is very good and the clip is comfortable.

Thanks gents, I am off to the bay to hopefully land me one of the Flash II's. Look forward to giving a review of it.
