Thoughts on the Spyderco KOPA

I'm new to Spyderco knives; my first being the Caly JR in ZDP. This knife so impressed me, that I'm seriously reconsidering my allegiance to BM and Ken Onion Kershaws.

There are no knife stores around here so the only knowledge I have on products is pictures from the Web and input from everyone here.

I am looking (cyberlly) at the Black Micarta KOPA at New Graham. I like the looks, and I'm generally not into massive folders though the 2.5" blade may just be a little "too little". I do like VG10 steel.

Any feedback from users/owners would be most appreciated. I'd kill myself on Red Bull and Cigars driving from Cincinnati to Virginia to visit New Graham.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Tim,

Congrats on the ZDP Caly jr. Appreciate the support.

Thought I'd mention the Kopa's are limited in production to 600 pieces for each handle material. The first was the Coco Bolo, the 2nd ws the black micarta, the 3rd was white Evrina (man made Ivory excellent for scrim) and the 4th (next) is a fossilized tiger coral.

The first 4 versions are already sold at at Spyderco so what is already at the dealers in the first 3 is all there is. We should be begin shipping the tiger coral pieces this month.

We're planning more than 20 handle materials at the rate of 3 or 4 per year.

I don't own a Kopa yet, but I know just by looking at the Cocobolo one, that I'll probably end up owning several. I'm not enamoured by the micarta one, nor the evrina (un-scrimshawed anyway), but I can definitely see myself with a small collection of wood and pearl (white MOP, blacklip, goldlip, maybe abalone, etc) ones. Maybe I'll end up getting all of them just to have the complete set.

Very few Spydercos strike me as "attractive" (usually ugly, yet extremely useful), and fewer still I would consider beautiful or sexy, but the Kopa is one of them.

The Kopa is awesome. The only problem I see with the Kopa is it is right hand only. It also is only tip-down. If you are very against both of those, then I'd say don't get a Kopa.
