I'm thinking of getting one and was just wondering what some of you guys think about it. I'm probably gonna get the ZDP189 version or the H1 version.

Post some pictures of your ladybugs.

It's a cool little keychain knife, that is actually a decent cutter. I wouldn't spend $60-$70 for a high end steel one.

Just get the VG-10 for $20

thinking of getting one myself and i'm also stuck in the zdp quandry. if the zdp can guaranty longer edge retention over vg-10, then it might be worth it. after all, you wouldn't want to be sharpening your keychain knife often. it is also hoped that a 1.9-inch zdp blade is much easier to sharpen than a 3+ inch one with all the bothersome bellies and recurves.

I see the ZDP Ladybugs are in the $40 range. That's not too bad.

I was thinking they were more.

I really wanted one for a while and even bid on a few but i'm glad i didn't spend the money. they're great knives but i decided i didn't want to spend that much money for a keychain folder. I'm getting a honeybee instead. There isn't really anything i'll be using a knife that size for that requirers a lock and i can't imagine being bothered by the edge retention. opening a few packages here and there will take months to wear down even the cheap steel on the honeybee and i don't mind touching it up every once in a while. I'm going to buy a dragonfly with some of the money i saved and i think i'll get a lot more use out of that. So decide if you really need/want it and if the answers yes i'd go with the vg-10 version. the zdp is just kind of cool, its not going to make a big difference in your life like it would on a larger knife.

I have the VG-10 Ladybug and it is great. Sharp and there when I need it. Unless you live near ocean or have high humidity, I don't think you need the H1 and I don't think ZDP is too great on a knife this small but that is up to you. Whatever you decide, I think you will be happy with it.

The Spyderco Ladybug Is A Sweet Little Knife.
I Had The Purple One For Quite A While, But Traded It Away.
I Didn't Miss It Much, But Now I Kinda Want One Again.
I Think I Would Go With The Manbug, Probably The G-10 One.

They Need To Make A Ladybug With G-10.

Anyways, As Far As Steel Goes, I Would Do The VG-10 As You're Spending $25ish For Something That Is Going To Have Really Light Duty And Plus VG-10 Is A Really Good Steel. The Extra Cost For ZDP-189 Or H-1 Isn't Really Going To Leave You Feeling Like The Money You Paid For It Is Worth It. As On A Keychain It's Not Going To Get The Real Work That You Get A Knife In That Steel For. The Performance Of Course Will Be Great, But You Don't Really Need The Slicing Action Of A Saber On A Keychain Knife. I Think That VG-10 Serves That Purpose Wonderfully.

have the H1. wanted the rust resistance so i didn't have to worry about it while hanging on my keychain. It's there when i need it, and it's not seeing heavy use, just general purpose stuff. And i have a caspian as well when i go out on a dive. It's easy to clip the ladybug to my boardshorts too and again, not needing to worry about rust, but there if i need it.

I also like how the ZDP189 version has a full flat ground blade and I love ffg. I'm buying a ladybug so that I can have a knife to take to college with me and I won't scare anyone plus I don't know my school's policy on knives so having a knife this small shouldn't break any rules. I'm not really into slip joints right now otherwise I'd get myself a case.

zdp189 takes scary-sharp edge but edge with acute angle can be chippy on cardboard/wood/etc... I had 2 ladies & 1 dragonfly in zdp - I like 'em but be ready for PITA if you want to reprofile. I recommend vg-10 for most people - based on my experiences with delica&endura&kitchen-cuttleries vg-10.

I carry mine to use if I'm afraid I'm going to scare someone with my ZT 0550. Wouldn't want the sheeple freaking out on me!

I have the Ladybug H1 and love it. Like previously mentioned, it is perfect for pulling out anytime without worry, no one has ever commented on my little yellow knife. I have it with me every day, though it often just rides in my pocket and the fact that H1 provides more rust resistance is wonderful. I highly recommend the H1, great little user and yellow is also hard to misplace.

I would like a ZDP 189 Ladybug, but I may or may not buy one since I have already spent bought a Manbug, and have spent a fair amount of money of Spydercos in the last month and a half. I think the Ladybug/Manbug is the most practical knife I carry because I work in an environment that is not overly knife friendly. The Manbug or Ladybug is totally capable of doing real work although it comes in such a small package.

NB: at least one forumer claims his key chain ladybug is his most oft-used knife. that's not hard to imagine.
