...Sage II?

Like every new model released (Gayle Bradley now) the Sage II got alot of love back then.

I'm wondering what are the thoughts on this knife after some time has passed and its been used by some of ya'll.

Thanks.

It rocks. Period. You'll hear a lot of extra love for the Sage 1 as Sages go, due to the lighter weight and the texture of the CF but make no mistake, they both are VERY nice but to be quite honest, the smooth titanium finish is not an issue for general EDC because of the ergos on that knife. Either Sage is a fantastic EDC but the RIL is a damn fine Sage. And it so beautiful out of the box you hesitate to use it ;)

Where the Sage Walker Liner Lock really shines, apart from the texture of the CF, is that you can operate it one handed much easier than the RIL so if you like passing the time operating the action one handed, the Sage 1 is for you. If you prefer to have a knife that is a little harder to close one handed then the RIL is the one.

Both are out of the best Taiwan factory Spyderco has on contract right now so the F&F is as good as any Spyderco has ever been IMHO.

BTW, I own two of each.

I still rate it as my #1 knife. I've probably opened & closed it several thousand times. I tend to do that when I'm watching TV. I'm right handed, but I switch hands; right and left doing this.

I suspect that it'd take years of use before the lock bar engaged 100%, but I think there has been some wear. I'd appreciate others opinions.

This is not a very good picture, but it is the only one I have of the lock bar when the knife was new.

I don't seem to have the correct tool to take the knife apart. I thought it was a T7, but that doesn't seem to work. If anyone knows what I should be using please tell me.

The following pictures were taken today.

I can't tell if this is metal shavings or just dust and such.

These next two pics show the lock bar engaged. You can compare it to the first pic to judge wear.

Now, these last two pics are of the tang where the lock bar engages. There is a slight smudge. Since the S30V blade is harder than the titanium lock bar I guess it is a transfer of titanium to the tang.

So, what do you think?

Think it looks beautiful cgm!

I absolutely LOVE my Sage 2 and would have to agree with cgm, this and my para are my favorite spydercos. The sage 2 is honestly an extension of my arm, best ergos out of all 23? of my spydies lol

If interested in this knife I would pick one up asap before prices rise and knife becomes more limited.

So, what do you think?

titanium without a treated lockbar (Sebenza) will wear in faster in time.

Plus, it looks like you got some lube on the tang and lock face maybe that is that's causing it to travel further?

Also, if you push the lockbar it will travel further as with all Reeve locks. (happens with my sebenza)

 just my very ignorant guess. :foot:

my experience has been for a framelock to wear in to a position and then remain there for quite some time.

That's what I think has happened to mine. I can't see any wear on the surface of the lock bar so I think it's just normal break-in. I'll keep an eye on it and report back if I notice unusual wear.

It was a T9.

I got my knife apart today and took some more pictures. Due to lighting and angles some of the pictures may be a little misleading. As far as I could tell there really isn't any wear other than a smoothing of the rough finish on the end of the lock bar, which I take for normal break-in wear.

If anyone else has any comments or opinions on the matter please share them.
