Photos Thoughts on this mint 1971 Gerber Mk II I just picked up?

So, being upfront, i have shared this in another group, but I thought i would let the experts weigh in here. I just bought this bad boy this past week for $150 at a pawn shop; blew my mind, but what can i say. They even had it marked correctly as a 1971 Mk II, but somehow missed that it should have been more expensive (not that i am complaining). Her serial # is 02030X (paranoid redaction), which puts her early - mid 1971. I have to say, my father used one in Vietnam, and while this is a two years later, its so cool holding something like what he used. Past these initial shots, I do have a question i am really curious about..

Some glamor shots of her:

The sheath was also included, and looks pretty dang nice

But, i am curious, for those who know.. how close to the factory edge is this guy? I read that the blade finish was originally brushed, and indeed all the lines are directional, with the edges showing far more polish. It doesn't need a sharpening, but if it is factory edge still, then i know i REALLY can't touch it...

Hopefully, my daughter in her later year will come to appreciate it; it would break my heart to think it gets sold off later in life, but guess i cant control that.. Anyway, guess this was a humble brag with some real questions, but open to all thoughts and comments!

Nice catch!!! Seems untouched but I'm half blind.😉.......Better pics of the edge would help

Looks nice but why don't you show the SN? Can't verify that it's a 1971 w/o that.

FWIIW, IMO you couldn't have picked up a genuine 1971 for $150 unless the pawnbroker was an idiot & I've never met a pawn broker who was an idiot. They wouldn't stay in business long if they were.

For example, a 1970 vintage Mark II (SN 014735) sold for $1k (down from an ask of $2250) on ACK on 11/08/2023. I've got a couple from the early 80's worth $400-500. So, I can't imagine how you'd get a genuine 1971 Mark II for just $150.

There are others here who specialize in collecting Mark IIs who can chime in, in they see this thread, but they'll want to see the SN too..

As for the edge, can't tell you but a genuine battle field used 1971 with a worn & beat up edge & sheath with proof of origin would be worth more IMO than a NIB 1971 Gerber Mark II in pristine condition.

I will work on getting better pics tomorrow with better light (my cell phone really did it no justice on the big screen).

I guess this value pawn owner was an idiot then (not the first wildly underpriced thing i have purchased .. once got a working PVS-7 for $75)... It happens, but i acknowledge its rare. But, i also love to bring the (literal) receipts when i nab deals like this:

Like i said, serial is 02030* (again, i am paranoid posting full, but that's just me). Checked against the list, and it lines up.

If it's real, you got a steal! 👏 👏 👏

And I wouldn't worry about the edge . . . 🤷‍♂️
Genuinely curious - did they even make makes of these?

Everything I see about it checks out.. serial, trademark, shape, teeth, etc.

As for the blade; if it’s factory edge, I would like to keep it that way, as I doubt many this old still have that. I know they are made to be used, but something about it feels better that way. I have treated the sheath with peckards oil, but that’s all I plan on doing to it at this point
