I usually dull a knife before I reprofile it's blade. I've been edc the advantage for a couple months now and what I worried about has finally happened. I've stayed away from s30v because I've heard it chips.
The blade is still sharp. Great edge holding this steel is. Before I go out in the morrnings I just run it thru my crock stix to pull burrs of it and shine that edge up. Yesterday I cut some rhino hide to reline my feed spouts and this morning I found a chip when running over the cermic. The edge despite the resistance of rhino is still there. Yes it needs alittle more honing than its been getting but it cuts.
I'm thinking about modifing my usual profile from 17 20 23 To steeper 20 25 28. My thinking is giving the CA alittle more backbone.
Why I'm asking is because I'm stumped. I can't get my mind around what would cause the steel to chip easier a shorter transition or longer cutting edge. I think I'm saying what I'm thinking right. Not sure if it makes sense though.
I've found that honeing the cutting edge only 3 Over the transition gives me a wicked edge and I can touch it up in the field with my sharper I keep in the truck if I need to a whole lot easier. I tend to hold my hand just alittle higher than wanted to make a 5 Cutting edge. It was easier for me to change the profile than it was to learn to hold my hand different. I hope someone here can get the jest of what I'm asking.
I appreciate any and all suggestions and thoughts.
